Putin made another speech addressing the events that took place Saturday. Assuring everyone he is still a very very powerful president. I think because I'm not sure what his message was here. He praised the dead pilots though.

And said nobody liked them Wagners.

I saw one video of a guy confronting Wagner troops in Rostov alot of the other people where cheering them on.

Edit: cropped the screenshots Added, He praised the dead pilots though.

This is still unconfirmed, there has been information about movement on the left side. This is early and a well organized Russian counter could send the Urkanians back to the right side of the river. They have not been sitting still while Prighozin had a little rebellion in Russia. edit: left bank not leftbank

KYIV, June 26 (Reuters) - Ukraine said on Monday its forces had regained control of the southeastern village of Rivnopil as they continue to advance against Russian forces after launching a counteroffensive.

The village appeared to be the ninth recaptured by Ukraine this month in the early stages of an offensive in which Ukrainian officials have signalled that the main push is yet to come.

"(Ukrainian) Defence forces have brought Rivnopil back under our control," Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

She did not say when Ukrainian forces had recaptured Rivnopil, which lies just to the west of a cluster of villages that Kyiv says it recaptured earlier in the counteroffensive.

An unverified 13-second video posted on Telegram by Ukrainian land forces, showing a group of Ukrainian soldiers in front of the remains of a building with a Ukrainian flag flying from a post, indicated the village was retaken on Sunday.

"Today on June 25, 2023, the fighters of the Second Battalion of the 31st Mechanised Brigade liberated the village of Rivnopil," one of the soldiers in the video said.

Using a derogatory term for Russian soldiers, he said: "The orcs are fleeing, we are moving ahead."

Maliar said in an earlier statement that Ukrainian forces had liberated about 130 square km (50 square miles) in the south since the counterattack began.

"There are already liberated territories and our advance continues," Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of Ukrainian forces on the "Tavria", or southern, front, said on Telegram.

He said on Saturday Kyiv had also taken back land near Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region that had been occupied since 2014, when fighting broke out with Russian-backed breakaway groups in eastern Ukraine, but gave no other details.

Russia, which launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, still holds swathes of territory in the east and south. It did not immediately comment on events in Rivnopil, and Reuters was unable to verify the situation on the battlefield.

The 13 minute video report from VICE Showtime about the people fighting in the eastern front of Ukraine. I wanted to share it because other than other YouTube videos the Vice Showtime team does make an offert in showing the reality of war. The first part shows the status on the eastern front a month before the capture of Bakhmut by Wanger on the 20th of may. So I am guessing the timing of the first part is in april, I think. The second part follows a drone workshop and a team of body collectors it looks like later in the year, you can see more green on the trees and sunny weather, maybe may or april.

Most observers (Western and Russian) seem to have expected Ukraine to go over onto the offensive sometime in the 2023 campaign season. Such a move was well telegraphed and a natural extension of Ukraine's stated objectives of taking back occupied territories from the Russian Federation.

By mid-June, it was clear Ukraine had started an offensive effort, launching probing actions at multiple points along the front and finally showing some of the heavy Western equipment it had received over the last six months.

Those initial attacks ran into the teeth of heavy Russian defences, and progress since then has been slower than the Ukrainian High Command may have hoped.

Initially I had planned not to touch these developments for some time - but with the recent information environment extending the full range of takes from 'Ukraine has lost the war' to 'everything is according to plan' I thought it was worth making an effort to try and clearly interpret (as far as possible) the data as we have it now.

So I hope you find this examination of the campaign of the last few weeks useful, and I'll see you all again next week.

Caveats & Comments: As mentioned in the video - the confidence level when dealing with a developing offensive is always going to be very low so those and all usual caveats apply with an additional emphasis for this episode.

I'd also like to note this episode was mostly prepared before the recent Wagner mutiny in Russia - and as a result largely reflects a state of affairs as it existed before that incident.

Finally I'd like to note that when talking about equipment removed from the Arsenal discussed in this video, the stated figure applies to a wider area of the base than shown on screen (which I'm aware might be confusing).

Sources & reading: I will include a list of sources as usual tomorrow (incredibly tired at the moment and they are saved on another system) but in the interim let me extend the usual credit to those twitter accounts and aggregators that posted some of the content featured in this episode.
