As the title says, the latest version of Facebook doesn't allow you to open links in your default browser of choice.

I am pretty sure a couple of weeks ago I was able to do that, but in the last couple of days it started opening all links in the in app browser.

If you go "Setting & Privacy > Media > Open Links in an external browser" and enable it, Facebook will still use the in app browser for opening links.

Anyway to get around this?

Looking for an app to list and export as a single text file all my installed apps -- names and package names; including Play Store apps, F-droid apps and those which origin in an apk file. I found List My Apps by Onyxbits, but can't install it unfortunately. Any alternative? preferably foss

Looking for X3 Pro Replacement, Does X5 or F5 Have the Same MB Issues?

My X3 Pro died recently out of nowhere and upon some digging around, found that it's a common issue with X3 Pro phones.

I was wondering if the new models (X5 or F5) would have the same issues. I don't want my phone to suddenly die on me after 2 years.

Coming from an SD 860, Which Chipsets are as Powerful or more Powerful?

My Poco X3 Pro just died and was looking at phones and have no idea which ones have the same or better performance than my Poco X3 Pro which had an SD 860.

I saw this chipset ranking website and wondered if this is a good start.

I'm open to non-sd chips as well because I'm not into modding.

Found this from other people on discord (pickAnAndroidPhoneForMe)

good chipsets

Dimensity 7200 ultra, 8020, 8050, 8100, 8200, 9000, 9200

SD 782G, 7gen1, 7 gen+2, 870, 8gen plus 1, 8 gen 2.

(stay away from 888, 888+, and 8 gen1 because thermal issues)

how reliable is that list?

Hello, I have a BIIIG problem. It started of me wanting to root my device. Of course, I used a random tutorial from the Internet. I did the steps carefully, but after a reboot, I had no TWRP, and I had an overlay of Download mode on top of Samsung secured by knox screen. So I downloaded another TWRP (unofficial, but stable), and after a reboot, I didn't see the system booting, I saw TWRP. I looked at file manager, and /storage/emulated/0 was empty, /data was also empty, I tried wiping the data but I have an error: Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument), I tried installing SAMFW.COM_SM-A526B_OPV_A526BXXS5EWI1_fac.zip via Download Mode using Odin 3, but it just failed and no file was transported. I need help, because now I don't even have a backup phone, because I had Nokia that is now hard key-locked (cannot unlock the keyboard because it's constantly locking)

I'm trying to migrate from my old LineageOS phone to my new LineageOS phone (both rooted, both without gapps) Is there any list of applicable methods or apps for this? Have you ever done something like this? Any advice and relevant links greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for a free, reputable ad blocker on the Play Store. Something that does local host/filter list filtering using the VPN feature, like Blokada 4 or 5 (before they started cloud hosting the filtering features as a money/data grab).

Personally, I'm no stranger to F-Droid or Obtanium and even have dipped my toes into ADB.

I need this for family members when they start asking, so I can point them at something decent that won't try to fleece them and get on with my life unburdened by family tech support hell. Something they can install through the Play Store they already have and easily switch on and off if something they "need" isn't working.

So that eliminates just setting their DNS to an ad blocking one in their Wi-Fi settings. Wouldn't follow them off that specific connection, and wouldn't be an easy toggle if something broke.

I'm considering flashing A13 on my phone, PixelOS in particular, but I want to make sure custom launchers (Lawnchair) are able to fully use gestures, including animations without flashing Magisk and installing the Quickswitch module.

At the end of yesterday's keynote, when Google spoke about on-device AI models, such as text to speech, etc, they said the "Pixel 8 Pro was designed to..." and left out the Pixel 8.

Since both devices are T3, I would assume they are both technically capable. Based on previous Pixel devices, do you think those features will make their way down to the non-pro model?

Reason for request: I've pre-ordered an 8 due to the size of the 8 Pro, but worried I'll be missing out on features that I actually find impressive (and are at least somewhat more privacy focused).

A friend is helping to develop a learning platform for incarcerated people, which will run on android tablets. They’re still in the planning phase and the friend mentioned that they were looking into how they could restrict access to some tablet features (ex. camera, internet, certain apps) as these are hard requirements. Apparently there are some services that can help with that management.

Are there any tools I can pass along to them? I saw this page on Dedicated Devices, but I couldn't find a guide on how to set it up. It seems like more of a technical process and it may require resources that the volunteer team doesn't have?

edit: Thank you for the tips! I'm going to pass them along :)

So I bought a moto G52 because it was listed as compatible with T-Mobile. It turns out it technicly works with T-Mobile but its limited to 2G and doesn't have service most of the time.

I am looking at alternatives but I don't know how to check compatibility. I'm looking to run lineage os and I need a headphone jack. I want to stay under $300 USD and I love Motorola's gestures so I would like to stay with Motorola if possible.

Any suggestions? I have been mostly brousing this website https://lineageosdevices.com

Preferably FOSS and supporting the side swipe up gesture. I know of Sesame, but it's been discontinued and doesn't support the gesture. Firefox on the other hand does support the gesture, but only does online search.

Hi I am looking for an easy way to backup parts of my mobile like some apps and folders to my pc and restore it after changing rom or to another mobile. I am using nobara linux and android 13. Need some open source linux solutions that can be done in few clicks or commands. Assuming they would be using adb commands but can use fdroid apps if it can work without rooting as well. My current mobile is rooted but not sure if I will be rooting it again with another rom.

If that isn't available could just make a script to use certain commands. Need to backup the following stuff,

  1. F-droid and it's installed apps I do have fdroidcl installed but haven't figured out the commands for it yet

  2. Aurora and it's installed apps No idea how to do that

  3. Aegis Auth I do have auto backup on so do I only take those files?

  4. Bitwarden It is saved in cloud so can do it manually if it's messy

  5. Few other apps if possible Not sure if taking a copy of certain data folders would work and no idea how many of them are there. Does it work for Aegis and Bitwarden as well? Both would be encrypted but if the key is my password then should be fine I suppose.

Still not that knowledgeable in these things so would be nice if the instructions are easy to understand.

I use the Google Messages app and I'm aiming for something like this:

  1. I add a custom field called Timezone to my contacts and put in GMT+9 or whatever (I have a friend who's moving to Japan)
  2. This theoretical app scans for the time zone field for each member of a chat
  3. The app draws over Messages, displaying the time for every time zone it finds in the members of the chat

Does something like this exist? I haven't had luck finding anything.

are there any pixel/stock like launchers currently in development? went from motorola to oneplus and missing stock launcher, nova launcher isn't developed since 2021, lawnchair haven't seen any release since 2018-2019, ruthless can't be officialy installed because it's 'made for older devices', hyperion is weird with icons, they look small at 115% and clip if set to larger percentage etc.

I just ordered a set from Apple and I can’t get these to stay in my ear.

I got two pairs from logitech, but the max volume on those was far too quiet.

I got a dongle from Google to use some old AKG earbuds I had, and the inline controls rarely work.

Hoping to find something that has good quality audio, inline controls, decent volume, and eartips that stay in (and/or can be swapped). Preferably somewhere at or below the $20USD mark.

Thank you for any recommendations.

I have a Motorola edge plus that will not connect to mobile data. It will show several bars of service but the 4G icon is greyed out like it knows the service is there but will not access it I can make calls and send texts as long as they can be sent as an sms text. I use straight talk as a provider so my talks with customer service have been difficult, but they assure me my plan is in order and go straight to restarting the device (which does not work).

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I'm considering trying a factory reset of the phone to see if that corrects any settings on my end, or maybe buying a new SIM card and reactivating the service? But I don't know if there's any chance that would work or if I should just try harder with customer service.

Hi. Is it possible to have Shelter app on a recent Samsung phone? I just got a Samsung A04s because of budget, and it seems like I can't run work profile apps in it. I've tried Shelter, Insular and Island, none of them worked, they're in conflict with native's Dual Messenger option, which is a limited work profile, that only can run message apps like WhatsApp.

Do you know how to solve this? Maybe someway to remove Dual Messenger?

When I use signal on my phone it works ok. But, occasionally I need to use it on my PC. Basically every time I start it on pc, it requires updating and repairing with my phone.

As a result, I do not have access to the history of my chats.

For me, this makes signal unusable.

What do I do wrong?

I've got a couple of old phones that I've had for a few years, and while both of them are in great physical condition, both of them run very slowly. So slowly that it's difficult to really use them for anything; even the home screens tend to be sluggish. My suspicion is that it's some planned obsolescence thing where they run a version of Android that they can't handle, and I would like to put them on something where they'll run more smoothly. After few years of digging around on the XDA forums and trying different things, I've never really made any progress.

The phones are a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (SCH-I435) on Android 4.4.2 and a Samsung S7 Edge (SM-G935V) on Android 8. Both are Verizon phones, and my understanding is that they're locked down pretty tight; I've never found a solution that will let me root them or flash a custom ROM. The S4 shows an open padlock on the boot screen, so I think I was able to unlock the bootloader at one point, but I wasn't able to go past that. I was never able to get anywhere with the S7.

Is there any possible solution to getting these phones running more smoothly? I'm open to hardware and software solutions if any exist. Thank you.
