Reform Act (Canada) (lemmy.world)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reform_Act_(Canada)

Usage

The caucus member ejection provisions were first used when the Conservative caucus voted to eject Derek Sloan on January 20, 2021.[9][10][11]

In February 2022, the leadership removal provisions were invoked for the first time by the Conservative caucus following the 2021 election, which used it to trigger a leadership review against, and remove, Erin O'Toole. During the review, 45 MPs voted to retain him against 73 who voted for his removal.[12] Deputy Leader Candice Bergen was selected as interim leader.[13][14] O'Toole's removal marked the first time since the Reform Act was passed into law seven years prior, that a party caucus formally challenged and dismissed its leader.[15]

I'm trying a thing where I email CEOs of price gouging companies who hurt people and ask them honestly what exactly is wrong with them that they're ok with this. No yelling, no insults, no rudeness, no threats, just a frank and honest question, and I want to email Galen but can't find it, as well as Per Bank, seems to be a highly guarded secret. I realize they have assistants who are emailing gatekeepers, but it's an interesting experiment nonetheless while I'm home sick in bed, and maybe it'll make some of them feel guilty. Can anyone find it?

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government has already slapped a 100 per cent tariff on all Chinese electric vehicles and a 25 per cent tariff on imports of Chinese steel and aluminum products. The finance ministry has said it's exploring options to widen the duties.

The mid-year fiscal update presented on Monday showed that Ottawa has decided to apply tariffs to imports of certain solar products and critical minerals from China early in the new year, with levies on semiconductors, permanent magnets, and natural graphite following in 2026.

Trudeau's government has frequently criticized the Chinese government-funded policy of oversupply and over-capacity. He has said Canada needs to protect local jobs from cheap Chinese products finding their way into the country.

Russian state-controlled media report about the resignation of former Deputy Prime Minister insinuates that “her resignation comes in the wake of new controversy surrounding her family’s past, particularly her grandfather’s ties to Nazi collaboration in Ukraine.”

The RT article falsely claims that “Freeland’s departure has reignited scrutiny of her family’s wartime past”.

[...]

Russian-state or pro-Kremlin media repeatedly targets Western politicians of Ukrainian descent, distorting and weaponizing WWII-era history to brand them as “Nazis” or “Nazi collaborators.” Chrystia Freeland, who is of Ukrainian heritage and who has been a vocal supporter of Ukraine, is a prime target.

[...]

The exaggerated storyline of Freeland’s resignation fits into a broader trope of portraying NATO or G7 countries as facing severe internal crises. Presenting “policy disagreements” as a dramatic cabinet split underscores the narrative that Trudeau’s government is collapsing—a recurrent theme in Russian-state-backed outlets.

Edmonton police commission chair John McDougall is stepping down after public controversy over his plan to stay on the oversight body until the end of 2026 from Portugal.

McDougall initially announced last Friday that he'd continue as a commissioner despite retiring to Portugal.

On Tuesday, he said "after much reflection over the past few days," he will resign "effective immediately.

"It is clear that my residency would be an unwelcome distraction from the important work of the commission, which is not fair to the citizens who rely on us to provide governance and oversight of the Edmonton Police Service," he said.

Two officers with a Vancouver Island police department have been charged with the sexual assault of a "vulnerable" woman, authorities announced Tuesday.

The investigation into the members of the Central Saanich Police Service began on Oct. 28 after "a person came forward with information about two officers who allegedly had unlawful sexual contact with an adult woman they met while on duty," the Vancouver Police Department, which led the investigation, said in a statement.

Sgt. Matthew Ball, 43, has been charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of breach of trust.

Const. Ryan Johnston, 40, has been charged with one count of sexual assault.

"The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau,"

"Her behavior was totally toxic, and not at all conducive to making deals which are good for the very unhappy citizens of Canada," Trump continued, ending his post with: "She will not be missed!!!"
