I'm feeling nostalgic for the happy blue lemming icon with the red nose.

As the title suggests, I am in Lemmy world, but it would be nice to browse a different local such as the UK one or the Australian one.

The link previews at the bottom of a post or comment was one of the nicer little QOL features in Apollo. Not only did it save me from countless bad clicks (Rick Rolls haha), but also time saved with previews and not needing to load a full page or just make it easier to tap a link between things in a cluttered post.

I had to restore my iPhone because I had it replaced, and now I can’t log in to lemmy.ml? When I tried logging in to the app

Rotate your phone 90 degrees. Rotate it back. Now there are huge black spaces between comments, and the comment text scrolls off the screen where it can’t be seen anymore. Only fix I’ve found is to close the program and reopen it.

Bug description:

  1. Get a reply to a comment
  2. View your inbox, see that reply
  3. Wonder what your comment was again, and what they are replying to…
  4. Tap their reply

Expect: go to the reply, in context, in the thread, ideally with your comment that they are replying to shown also (wefwef currently does this)

Actual: go to thread, but neither the reply nor your comment are shown - you have to scroll the entire thread and find them

Why a priority? Because this directly impedes back and forth conversation, which is the whole mode of Lemmy.

Appreciate the work. Thanks for hearing this feedback.

I know this is a mobile app so people can generally pretty easily put in regular emojis, but Lemmy allows for instances to have custom emojis and I know of at least a few that do. So, having an emoji picker to let people make use of those seems like a good idea.

Also, said custom emojis currently embed the same way as regular images, such that in comments where they are used in-line, it can break up the text in a way that both looks bad and can make things harder to read:

I'm not 100% sure if there's a way to fix the second one since the custom emojis are at the end of the day just images afaik, but if so that would be nice.

Hi everyone,

We are aware that the TestFlight version is pretty unstable at the moment, with a lot of bugs and crashing. This is because we are in the middle of rewriting our entire state management. We appreciate the testers who let us know what issues there, are but please be respectful when doing so.

If you don't wish to deal with the current instability of the TestFlight version, please download the App Store version as that is meant to be stable. When using TestFlight, you get all the latest features, but that also means you get the latest bugs too :D

As another reminder, creating bug reports in GitHub is still the best way to have your issue addressed.

Thank you to everyone who helps us test Memmy!

When scrolling through the main feed eventually I will hit a point where it’s roughly the same 20 or so posts on repeat. The posts might not be in the exact same order and new content will be mixed in.

In Apollo it would eventually hit “the bottom” of the feed and it wouldn’t go any further. This feels like the app is fetching the next posts but without a full page of results it's returning the same posts again and again.

Anyone else seeing this?

Push Notifications (lemmy.world)

I can’t get the push notifications to work. When I try to turn it on it just sits and spends. Is there a setting that is causing the issue?

As the title says, I'm wondering how to make previously hidden posts reappear? In Apollo when posts were marked as read, they were only hidden from the frontpage feed and not the subreddit feed. Sometimes I want to revisit a discussion or check out something that I already saw before and I don't know how to find it in the app.

As the title says. Features are now available on TestFlight. Apple should approve the release on Monday, so let's hope that happens and it's available everywhere. Cheers.

Edit: Noticed a problem with the marking as read. Fixed now and I'll update here shortly.

I get a notification that I have a message/comment, and when I read it, I still have to clear it by hitting the envelope button to clear the notification from the app.

Will there be a way to make this clear when read sometime in the future?

I’m just curious. I read somewhere that apps coded with swift UI function better in IOS and I was wondering if Memmy is using that.

A feature that seems missing from all lemmy apps is a way to browse instances I’m not signed. Say I’m at lemmy.ml and find a post I like from lemmy.world. I’d like to see what else lemmy.world has to offer, so listing the communities there would be awesome.

To me that’s the worst part of the fediverse, not being able to browser neighbors communities. This feature would bridge this gap and make using the fediverse more pleasurable.

It was one of the best features of Apollo. I’m getting really bored of filtering the endless amount of furry subs. Jfc there’s so many.

I’m on the latest version from today. I seem to be getting some weird gaps as I scroll through the feed. The image shows an example.

Hey all!

It may have seemed to be a slow week, but I have been toiling rewriting a significant portion of the codebase while staring at graphs so that we can better implement new features. Currently, the state management was a bit too spread out, so I have taken the time to centralize that. This is going to make things like mod tools a cinch to integrate, and I plan to do that this coming week (seriously).

These changes should also provide some pretty good performance enhancements. To be sure, this is not a complete effort yet, however I have overhauled the two biggest things: feeds and posts/comments. These are the two biggest performance bottlenecks, and I think I’ve gotten about 80% of the way there in improving the performance there. Still more work to do though!

Additionally, we should see another significant performance boost in the next portion of the rewrite, which will remove off the current UI library that we use and replace it with a much better performing library. That is a process that will happen over time.

The great news is that now, we should be able to iterate at a higher speed with these changes, and we should be rolling out some big changes here in the next few days!

For now, there are a few changes - and things that should be fixed because of this rewrite

  • I keep saying this, but I have a feeling that this should resolve some NSFW issues
  • I also keep saying this, but I am pretty certain that this should fix the issues with language ID issues. At least for posts, comments should be fixed in a day or so.
  • The profile screen has been reworked
  • Much better (but still lacking, and this will improve further in the coming days) performance with the traverse

As this is a rewrite of a lot of state things, there is a chance that some things might have broken. However, I have done a good bit of testing here and think things are alright. If you see anything funky, please do let us know!

We do plan (and should be able to do so more easily now) have some tab bar options that will allow you to customize the functions there. For example, you will be able to visit the traverse tab from a button on the tab bar if you wish to swap it out with another one.

Like I said, this coming week will be more feature-full rather than behind the scenes work. Thanks for hanging in there while we get this stuff sorted out!

Cheers!

I don't know if I'm stupid, but when there are multiple images in a post, then I can't go to the next image.

Is it a but or am I dumb?

I just checked the github page and it seems this bug is low priority:

Memmy does sometimes not let you post or comment due to a weird bug that thinks you‘re posting in the wrong language.

I just want to point out that I‘ve had this bug twice so far and others (maybe many) will have it too which severely hinders the growth of lemmy at this critical time.

If someone reads this who has any clout, stuff like this is what can trip a promising platform like this. Exponential growth and all.

Have a good one.

I admit I have a bad habit of doom scrolling. One feature I used in Apollo to address this was the “next page” setting - rather than scroll endlessly, pages were limited to X number of posts, then I had to hit a button to load more content. It was helpful to me, at least… any thoughts on adding something similar here?

If this already exists - my apologies. Thanks!
