Hey! A kbin user here, just logged in to my lemmy.world dummy account to ask this, I've noticed communities like m/AskKbin, m/Cars, M/RedditMigration and etc are not federating at all with Kbin anymore, I am not sure if this is just an issue from my side, a bug or did lemmy.world mods really decide to not federate with Kbin??
EDIT: Just saw another official post from the admins here 3 months back, so looks like it is partially defederated as in Lemmy.world from one side can't see Kbin's communities thanks to the spam issue a while back?
To mention, the spam issue is no longer a problem afaik, and Kbin has since brought built-in mod request system, allowing inactive communities to be requested by new moderators similar to reddit request, this has helped a lot and ever since many of the "used to be spam with inactive mods" is no longer an issue as new mods have since started requesting and taking over those communities.
Ie; One of the biggest Kbin communities: m/RedditMigration, was a community that had an inactive mod and a flow of spam, I was able to takeover and place ban on the spammers and bring back the peace. We were able to make a ton of progress in the past month, placing new rules and soon, we will be recruiting even more mods to keep up the quality-control.
So I do hope lemmy.world can reinstate full federation between both platforms, allowing users from here to see communities there as well.
EDIT: Also Kbin.social's admins, is Ernest who is also the developer of Kbin itself, when lemmy.world admins decided to hide Kbin communities about 3 months ago, Ernest was facing private issues in his life but ever since then development resumed from being paused and bot spam has been addressed apart from the mod request system that has also been helping. Considering it's been months and it's now no longer as the issue it was months ago, I do hope the admins here can bring back the connection between both instances.
Just checked the instances list and it still shows kbin.social as federated, so it's likely an issue or bug.
If it's a different one than kbin.social I'm not sure.
You can go to lemmy.world homepage and click instances at the bottom, then ctrl+f (or equivalent find in page feature for mobile browsers) and search your instance name.
If it's near the bottom under the blocked section it's defederated but above that it's usually just a federation issue.
The communities I mentioned are from Kbin.social actually.
To mention, I dont think it's a bug although I might be wrong, the post here from the admins mention they have not really defederated it, but they have removed Kbin communities from Lemmy.world so only users from Kbin can see content here, one side only.
I'm not 100% sure how it all works, but wasn't it so that magazines / communities and the like only really federate when someone from instance A deliberately looks for them on instance B? So, in that case, people from Lemmy.World opening the links to the magazines you posted would lead to the content federating eventually?
Please correct me if I'm wrong ^^°
You might be right, I am not sure, but Ask Kbin before actually used to federate well and often got people from lemmy.world and lemmy.ml, now I just cant seem to find AskKbin from here.
Huh....you're right. It's not in the community list and neither are the others you mentioned. Same for the dropdown menu. And manually creating a link that should work, gets weird results again.
!askkbin@kbin.social gives me the "error" page even tho it should work,
https://kbin.social/m/askkbin works just fine, but with the kbin design
I think it is a bug, as I cannot access some communities on slrpnk.net (like !documentaries@slrpnk.net) from my Kbin account, it just gives me a 404, even though they definitely should be federated. However I can still access other communities on Slrpnk.net from it (or maybe they're just old posts?) Something is definitely up.
