So you're telling me that they run on such a skeleton crew that ONE employee having an accident and missing work led to 12 sailings being cancelled?

I really think it's time to accept that BC Ferries should be run as a public service and not as a for profit business.

It's almost like somewhere around 2004... something changed :-P

BC Ferries was operating at a loss between 1960 and 2004... but it was a government corporation and didn't really "need" to run at a profit. As soon as it was privatized and that American CEO stepped in, things started going wrong.

Now it's a complete shit show. The working conditions and contracts that the staff are employed under are insane. Yeah, they can't find employees... not much wonder.

Essential service ... absolutely no effective Business Continuity Plan. No safety margin.

If you picked Public Private Partnership, you'd be right.

But wait! What about 2022's Bill 7 in the ledge? It was a bill to bring BCFerries back under firmer government oversight. Go see what happened to it. Thanks David!
