That annoys me because I actually like their watch and would probably use that over the others for android if I could.

Apple, you could have gotten money out of someone who doesn't like you.

That's a shame, but I can't say that I'm surprised.

Same thing with iMessage for Android; ain't gonna kill that golden goose.

Apple reportedly canceled the project because the Apple Watch is a driver of iPhone sales

While Apple has a tight grip on the US market, Android has a strong presence around the world.

Makes sense. I'm making a huge assumption here, but I think a good-sized chunk of that Android market comprises people that have already decided they won't move to iPhone just to use an Apple Watch. So why risk cannibalising existing phone sales, just to sell some more watches?

Android users have choice. They're not locked in like Apple users.

They're using the same reasoning for more making iMessage available on Android

It's apples fault for not selling iPhone with android OS. I use Android phones, which leaves me the option to buy from whatever company I want. I'd consider an iPhone with android OS if it had compatibility to other android and iOS devices. But for apple it seams to be more important to sell an OS and ecosystem and not more hardware. Though technically they sell some extra hardware by locking people up into a golden cage. Android will remain the smarter choice as you have freedom of choice. Apple you don't and there's no way to argue that fact away.

and how close is "this" exactly?

Guess they'll need a sustainable business model first. I could see an Apple Watch for Android under certain circumstances:

  • Subscription based in some way, like iCloud Drive for Apple Watch or whatever
  • Limited set of features on Android while getting full set of features on iOS
  • Limited to more expensive Pro or Pro Plus Max or Ulta Pro models to account for lost sales of iPhones on the way
  • Standalone functionality with Wifi and eSIM capabilities

Damn, you have an evil mind.

Late stage capitalism is in my blood 😎

Such a missed opportunity. I might have got one.

I would never have gotten one anyways.

One: it's apple, and they're a shitty company

Two: it's still apple so it would have been expensive

Three: obviously there are going to be incompatibility issues since they are different OS builds

Four: it looks like shit, and that watch band is a bad idea. It's gonna look horrible in the next 6 months with it fraying and looking nasty
