Trump going to jail… should be what keeps him from presidency.
Okay, and the punchline is that after Trump agrees, drops out of the race, and accepts the Presidential pardon, they tell him that Biden can't pardon him from state crimes. Assuming he's convicted in Georgia, even the Governor there can't do it. Pardons in GA are issued by the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles and they will not pardon him until he's served his sentence (at least five years), paid all fines, and have no charges outstanding.
Moot point. He won’t be offered. He wouldn’t accept even if he was. He has to lie and grift. He will die if he stops.
@tacosanonymous Moot point part deix: that motherficker and his party will run his campaign from the visitor's wing of the county jail if they have to.
That would be glorious
I don't care. Trump is a massive threat, yeah, but the entire Republican party is corrupted now. You don't think the Christofascists and MAGAts will give up just because someone else becomes the nominee, do you? The party has already given in to them throwing tantrums, it's not going to grow a spine now.
And the problem is that a bunch of people see Trump as a threat, where they wouldn't see Haley or DeSantis or some of the others as one. Which gives more than enough space for Faux et al to convince people, or even for people to delude themselves.
And we talk about how the younger generation is so liberal, but there's a whole bunch of men being radicalized by people from Jordan Petersen through to Andrew Tate, and you know that they're not voting (D).
This is what people are overlooking. This doesn't die with Trump. Whether the Republican Party metamorphosised or took their mask off, we are now stuck with a blatantly corrupt party in a system where there is only two. There is more than a lot of work to do.
That sounds like the dumbest thing in the world, did Trump himself suggest this? He'd play it as "sacrificing himself to save America from another four years of Biden" and his base would eat that shit up. This makes the whole thing sound as though it was political from the get-go, like the only reason Trump is facing all these charges is because it's a witch hunt and all Trump has to do is just bow out of the race and all his problems will go away.
Biden would pardon Trump in exchange for his dropping out of the presidential race. Biden would then end his 2024 campaign to assure Americans that the deal was not done to make his reelection chances easier.
Holy cow - it's a win-win!
That reads like bad fan fiction. Do they kiss at the end?
There's three key problems with such an arrangement:
- Trump won't do anything that hurts his public image on purpose. He will do anything to keep it, even if that means rolling the dice on his lawsuits.
- Trump doesn't keep his promises where money or power to get money are involved, and even if he did...
- I don't believe Trump would honor his end of the bargain if his followers wrote his name in and got him elected in spite of his dropping out.
Even if there was a public, written agreement, signed by Trump in front of the world and notarized and all stating that he would drop out of the presidential race for a pardon - he would try to weasel out of it. It's simply his nature. You can't talk a tiger out of his stripes (not that Trump was anywhere as noble as a tiger, though).
Just like his "I never swore to support the constitution". Lying is so deeply ingrained into his nature, whoever somehow trusts this guy needs his or her head examined.
I don't see Biden doing this. It has nothing but downsides for him to get involved in this matter.
If he does this and Trump (against all odds) abides by the agreement, then Biden just added legitimacy to the whole "this is a political hit job to get Trump out of the election" theory. It's a garbage theory which shouldn't be given any legitimacy, but this would push that forward on the right. Meanwhile, people on the left would be furious that Trump avoided punishment.
If Biden does this and Trump reneges on the deal, then you get the "legitimization" of the political hit job theory except without Trump dropping out. Meanwhile, the left would be angry that Biden gave Trump a get out of jail free card.
And this doesn't even get into the fact that Biden couldn't make the Georgia criminal case or the New York civil fraud case go away. He could call the prosecutors and ask them nicely to drop the cases, but they would be under no pressure to listen to him.
Biden's best bet is to just let the criminal justice system play out without sticking a single finger on the scales. Exactly like he's currently done.
Oh good, another rich white asshole goes essentially unpunished. All he has to do is not be president.
There’s no way he’d stick to the deal. His sycophants will drive him to it because he can’t stand not being in the limelight. And even if he didn’t run, he’s still a rabid mouthpiece driving the far right to extremes. No telling where that could lead.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Federal prosecutors have charged him in connection with the Department of Justice's investigation into his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, as well as the case involving classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.
In New York City, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has charged Trump with falsifying business documents in connection to a hush money payment made to an adult film actress during his 2016 campaign.
Mulvaney outlined how Trump's legal woes could play out in an opinion piece published in The Hill Wednesday morning.
He continued: "He also struggles with the realization that one of his favorite half-jokes has been turned back on him in haunting fashion: it is always interesting, he has commented many times, how people can change their minds when they 'realize that they are going to be the bride of another prisoner very shortly.'"
He resigned from that post following the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, when Trump supporters violently tried to block certification of Biden's Electoral College victory.
In June, Mulvaney predicted that the chances Trump will face jail time are "pretty high."

It's so sad for the lizards of this world that this Individuum looks more and more like them. In the place of the lizards I'd sue him.
