"Violence against civilians will have consequences". I wish I could believe that. I think most Israeli's who destroy the lives of Palestinians will enjoy it without consequence.

A handful of people can't come to the US (unless they come as part of a UN visit, lol), but we'll still give you complete and unconditional military support to drive those people from their homes!

[-] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.world 13 points 10 months ago

Cool. Now stop sending them money and weapons.

I am getting a bit tired of the card the Israeli government pulls.

"No you cannot commit war crimes against civilians because of WW2."

It's a start I guess? Maybe? I don't think the people attacking Palestinians care about coming to the US right now.

I'd prefer to see the US withhold the billions of dollars of monetary aid it gives Israel every year. Maybe give it to Ukraine?

Demographically, what is the profile of the average "settler"? Are they ultra-orthodox, Herodim or something? I know very little about Israeli domestic stuff

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Some of the settlers move to the occupied territories for religious reasons while others are drawn by a relatively lower cost of living and financial incentives offered by the government. Ultraorthodox Jews form one-third of all settlers.

From the second article, you should give it a read.

Basically there are 2 types of people living there. First are the people who go to live there because government supports it a lot (which is terrible btw). Basically they go to the West Bank to enjoy life in a newly built village with more modern amenities than in the rest of Israel.

The second groups are the ultra-orthodox ones who just believe that God gave them the land... Rather no comment on that attitude.

[-] DarkGamer@kbin.social 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Yeah that's the stereotype, that settlers are typically right-wing orthodox types that believe the entire holy land should belong to them. Though, the Al-Jazeera article says Ultra-Orthodox are 1/3 of settlers and many others are there for religious or financial reasons.

[-] samokosik@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 10 months ago

Trusting Al-Jazeera is a terrible idea as they literally couldn't call Hamas a terrorist organization.

[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

1/3 is still a large proportion, considering that orthodox jews made up only 13% of Isreal.

[-] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

So whats the truth or an alternative reality-based take on it?

[-] NoIWontPickaName@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

We’re out of alternative reality, can I interest you in some alternative facts instead?

[-] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

What does it come with again?

[-] Noodle07@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago
[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

Does it also come with a sickening amount of fast food?

[-] DoomBot5@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago

Warning: both sources are extremely biased against Israel. Take information read from them with a grain of salt. Better yet, verify the information against credible sources.

[-] netchami@sh.itjust.works 0 points 10 months ago

Fuck off and go back to reading the Jerusalem Post aka Israeli propaganda

[-] DoomBot5@lemmy.world -1 points 10 months ago

No, I'm going to comment on your propaganda bullshit and call it out.

[-] SeducingCamel@lemm.ee -1 points 10 months ago

Didn't Israel kill the family of an Al Jazeera journalist covering in Palestine? I'd have a bias against Israel too after that

[-] DoomBot5@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago

After, before, since they're inception. AJ always had a bias against Israel. The Arabic version is much much worse than the English version as well.
