Weather: Clima

App managers: Obtainium for FOSS, Aurora Store for proprietary apps, and Droid-ify just for browsing F-Droid repos.

Social media: For YouTube I use LibreTube for watching, as well as Seal for downloading videos (essentially a yt-dlp wrapper). For lemmy, I use Jerboa.

I use F-Droid basic for browsing. The client is really important for easy external repo searching.

Funny that I am not the only one, but F-Droid is simply the best for finding stuff.

Obtainium could need a better UI really.

[-] clmbmb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 months ago

If you're talking about UIs, f-droid is ugly as hell too. Just do yourself a favor and start using Droid-ify - it's just another f-droid client, but more modern and much nicer.

[-] Pantherina@feddit.de 3 points 10 months ago

I find F-Droid to be better. And I use Obtainium with official Releases, F-Droid apps and F-Droid third party repos.

And obtainium has by far the most confusing UI

[-] sibloure@beehaw.org 2 points 10 months ago

Glad I'm not the only one who uses Droid-ify for browsing only. I kinda felt bad like I hurt its feelings.

Weather - Breezy Weather

Stores - Obtainium & Aurora Store

Social Media - Clipious(for Invidious/YouTube), Infinity for Reddit, Eternity for Lemmy, Tusky for Mastodon

I really like the weather app "Rain" for Android 🥰

  • Weather: TinyWeatherforecast for anyone in Germany. I did a big thread once, "your local weather" was my favourite.
  • stores: Aurorastore, F-Droid basic (just for searching), Obtainium (for getting everything, it has a learning curve and especially external F-Droid repos are not easy, use F-Droid basic to find the package names or just use F-Droid basic for those apps, disable the main repo)
  • Social: Jerboah, just the most complete. Fedilab for Mastodon, its really great. Grayjay for all the Video platforms. Pixeldroid for cool images

Y*uTube: PipePipe, Seal

Pleroma/Mastodon: Husky

T*itter: Squawker

R*eddit: Stealth

Store: Obtainium, Droid-ify

[-] owen@lemmy.ca 3 points 10 months ago

I love PipePipe. It is so chill.

I'm a big fan of the weather app wX for US people. It is a no-frills NWS data explorer, with a great radar and widget. It doesn't have the look of a modern app, persay, but the data are all there and very clear. (To get to the meteogram, long press on the radar widget on the home screen. I found this by accident, but am very happy I did.)

Breezy weather is updated but hasn't been working for me recently. Might be due to lawnchair my launcher idk

[-] clmbmb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 months ago

Works good for me. Maybe try to clean the cache?

Weather

OpenWeather: shows weekly overview by default; if you select one day it shows you a nice graph of precipitation and temperature for that day. Good for figuring out the forecast at a glance.

Weawow: the Hourly Details view is amazing for scrolling through the next few days hour by hour and seeing precipitation amount, precipitation probability, temperature, and so on all at the same time. I love the detail it provides. Also, I believe the beautiful pictures in the app are community-donated.

Store apps

Neo Store: Doesn't allow auto-updating, but I like its layout significantly better than F-Droid.

Social media

Voyager for Lemmy: neat compact layout allowing you to see many more posts at a glance than any other app I've tried (Jerboa, Liftoff, Thunder). Also lots of nice features like marking newly created accounts with a baby emoji, ability to share comments as nicely formatted screenshots (I didn't think I'd use this feature but it's honestly so convenient!), and ability to customize swipe behavior.

[-] Gooey0210@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

Everything is good, there are just few sentences I would add:

Openweather works with gadgetbridge, so you can have weather info on your wearable

Neo store is far the best, but also obtainium is the new thing in the town

For lemmy, try eternity

And for social media in general, there are plenty of good apps for different platforms, I think this category needs to be extended into its own section. Because there are foss platforms, clients for closed source platforms, pixelfed, mastodon, lemmy, etc. I mean it's a lot

Hello mate. You probably missunderstood the thread. The thread is about weather apps, stores and stuff related with social media, like Fediverse or youtube, where social media like Twitter, Instgaram, Facebook, etc are included. That suggestions are not related to this.

If you want to share your application suggestions in the respective topics - you can see them in the main post of this thread - I would appreciate it

[-] no_ragrets@lemmy.ml 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

sorry, my bad. I have replied main post with a comment.

seal would still qualify though

[-] Che_Donkey@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 months ago

How accurate is Forecastie? most of the weather apps I have tried are...not great.

[-] dez@lemmy.ml 3 points 10 months ago

For me works fine and has very accurate. And Im not living on big city on my country
