Trump may have a minor injury to his ear, but the stand-down/all clear has been given. archive

Former President Donald J. Trump was rushed off a stage by Secret Service agents at a rally in Butler, Pa., after several pops that sounded like gunshots.

Mr. Trump went to the ground and was immediately surrounded by agents, who then escorted him to a motorcade. The former president pumped his fist at the crowd as he was hustled off the stage.

When the pops began at 6:13 p.m., Mr. Trump appeared to grab his right ear, which appeared to be bleeding as he left the stage.

I'm not entirely surprised...

His first campaign was entirely cribbed from reagan too

The crowd just stood around bewildered throughout the whole thing. I mean, I do kinda get it, that weird pop sound in the video sounds too faint, unlike gunfire. Funny how he had time to mug for the camera after the "shooting".

The last fucking thing we need is Donald Trump the living martyr.

EDIT: Apparently a shooter is dead and one of the rally attendees died, too. Guess this was indeed legit. https://apnews.com/live/election-biden-trump-campaign-updates-07-13-2024

I definitely don't want him to be a martyr or be able to play like a martyr. But I won't shed one tear when the moment happens.

Every one in the political sphere, including Biden, and the international sphere is giving him such support... I wonder if he'd do the same if it were Biden instead.

He'd probably do something similar on day 1 while at the same time starting to recuperate the action politically, and after a few days just go into full conspiracy or similar mode

Questions of how a gun got past the metal detectors have me wondering if this was a Shinzo Abe scenario and someone hid a makeshift weapon or ghost gun somewhere that wouldn't get checked in the security checks before they got in

Edit: looks like I'm paying out to the betting pool, the idiot just hid on a roof outside where the feds were stationed.

It is possible the shooter was outside the perimeter. Based on the videos I have seen on CBS, and here: https://www.survivethenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/1720916992_Potential-Trump-Shooter-Reportedly-Found-Dead-on-Shed-Roof-VIDEO-1024x576.jpg

The shooter appeared to be on a roof far away from the stands.

Edit: Confirmed that the shooter was outside the perimeter setup by secret service https://www.cbsnews.com/news/possible-shots-fired-at-trump-rally-in-butler-pennsylvania/

Talk about a massive failure of the Secret Service. No matter how ones feels about Trump, he -- nor Biden -- should have ever be in this situation. I've been seeing reports that some rally attendees saw the guy on the roof and said something to security, but nothing was done. Sounds like the roof wasn't even that far away and obviously had good enough sightlines on the stage.

I do feel bad for the family of that attendee who died. I know these are Trump supporters and all that, but still. You don't expect to die at a political rally. I've been to some rallies before for Dem candidates. My brother, who's not a Trump supporter, went to a Trump rally in Vegas last month as a gag. And this isn't Jan 6 and that dumb woman who tried to break into the congressional chambers and got shot by police.

At first I figured he'd done another Jan. 6th, 'They're not here to hurt me' and waived off that security, but news is talking to someone there who said the crowd DID get screened. There is talk now that the shooter may have been outside a fenced in area. The shooter supposedly climbed onto a low nearby rooftop.

He looks like a saint now thanks to the shooter Trump surrounded by bodyguards slightly bloodied near his right ear and pumping a fist in front of a US flag

[-] terraborra@lemmy.nz 23 points 5 months ago

Yeah that’s the problem; this has probably clinched the election for him as he can play into martyrdom.

[-] memfree@beehaw.org 14 points 5 months ago

From other fediverse coverage: https://beehaw.org/comment/3717663

If he’s uninjured then I have to assume this was staged.

[-] LallyLuckFarm@beehaw.org 5 points 5 months ago

Didn't see this when I made my comment but yeah. Reeks of the reagan playbook

[-] SteposVenzny@beehaw.org 17 points 5 months ago

Trump’s pretty crazy but I don’t think he’s “plan to intentionally get grazed by a bullet” crazy.

[-] LallyLuckFarm@beehaw.org 3 points 5 months ago

I think Nancy was the one who had a relationship with the shooter...

The whole thing just feels a little hinky to me, but I agree with you in doubting that trump planned it. That said, keep an ear out for lines from ronnie's speeches

[-] Kacarott@feddit.de 2 points 5 months ago

If you are gonna fake something like this, you wouldn't actually shoot a bullet, you'd use a blank and some tiny blood pack like they use in movies.

Is this The Boys, IRL edition?
