I'm not sure what challenges wave power faces that tidal doesn't, but the Rance tidal power station in France has been operating since 1966.

How many Mega Watts is the wave power itself? The whole project is only 20MW. A wind turbine is between 2 and 16MW depending on the size, so sounds like this would be equivalent to a few wind turbines?

Presumably while winds are intermittent, tides are constant.
