I don't have a "main social media app". I use Lemmy and Mastodon on mobile; Reddit and Facebook only on desktop.
Instagram, followed by Lemmy. I'm trying to use IG less often.
I stopped using Reddit a few years before the whole stupidity, because the culture was fucking with my head.
Then I did the Mastodons for two years or so, with Lemmy eventually entering the mix. And then as Lemmy got more users and content, it took over as my preferred platform.
If Lemmy is social media, then Lemmy is my only social media app. I have Mastadon installed but I never use it.
I think it has been a decade since I used Facebook or Twitter and I never tried any of the later generation of networks like Snap or TikTok.
My main social media app is Mastodon (technically Firefish which I will soon migrate to Iceshrimp... but those details are less relevant)
I consider Lemmy less so of a "social media" and more of a link aggregator/discussion forum... but yeah otherwise I try to use Lemmy a bit too. I still browse Reddit quite a lot, but only for individual communities that don't have equivalents on Lemmy, and I no longer post there
I never used much social media to begin with tbh... I feel pretty decent about the Fediverse. Despite all the drawbacks (blocklists, fedi drama, etc), I think people collectively managed to make an objectively better social media platforms compared to the previous corporation-dominated ones (at least by my personal metrics)
I use Lemmy and Mastodon about equally. I find I like Lemmy for discussions, while Mastodon is good for news just because there are a lot more users overall, and you can follow different news feeds on it.
Never used Facebook much. Nor Myspace before it. Seemed like it had some obvious pitfalls that everyone else was ignoring.
Used Twitter for a little while, but it was just making me mad. Then horrible guy bought it, so I deleted the already abandoned account.
Instagram also seemed like a source of feeling bad, so I never used it much.
I left reddit recently. It had some good content but the ownership sucks. With general Internet search getting bad, losing reddit sucks. Like, I searched yesterday for how to disable a setting in some app, and landed on some AI slop website that told me to write a letter to my local news station.
So this is all that's left for me. It's frustrating that most people don't give a shit and will just move on to the next private platform. I had a friend who was generally smart and successful, but she just didn't give a shit about this kind of thing. She wanted her easy entertainment, so she was on all the major platforms. Mastodon "didn't have good content" so she didn't use it.
Do you use other social media? If yes, which services? What are your screennames and handles? What street did you grow up on? What was your Elementary School's maiden name?
Lemmy and Discord.
newsboat is a gem.
Lemmy is too quiet and has little local activity so I still glance at FB and Reddit
in this order: Discord, YouTube, Lemmy
This is pretty much where I'm at.
Discord is where tight knit social circles are.
Youtube is where I watch content from large creators I follow.
Lemmy is where I can follow public discussions about a variety of topics.
I have a Mastodon account and I like the instance, but it unfortunately fails to really deliver any of the 3 things I mentioned above.
Been trying lemmy for a few months, and I have mixed feelings. Not going back to reddit even if hell freezes but if only I could strip the orange turd and the jumping dipshit (and all of us politics) from my feed I’d enjoy it way more. This is most certainly user error, so if anyone has any recommendations I would welcome them. Being on .world is the problem?
The voyager client has filters you could use to try and filter things out.
Like the others have said, use Voyager to filter out the instances and communities you don't want to see.
Ive been using descovery for a while. It works mostly great. I have to learn a bit better how this works as instances and filters go, but I think I got it figured out for the better part
I love the helpful feeling you get from people responses here, not those snarky one liners replies that add nothing (but I’ve done plenty of those on reddit, don’t want to bring that vibe here, although I might have failed already)
I’ll be better, I promise
I'd say I actively use Lemmy and Discord nowadays (as in, I'm making new posts there). Some times I leave a comment under a YouTube video, other times I lurk Reddit just to see what other people have said about XYZ topic.
I used to be a very frequent user of Reddit during much of my adolescence, but got tired of it a few months ago. I'm not exactly sure what caused it, maybe the increased toxicity, or that some subreddits got boring after they reached a certain number of subscribers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Lemmy and Facebook
Mastodon and lemmy, can't choose
Lemmy is the only app I use because I want to. Others I gave to use for work etc.
Rdrama.net
These days twitter is where it's at for keeping up with everything that's censored everywhere else. There's nowhere better for Palestine updates. I hear tiktok is good too but I'm no longer a teenager.
