Stoli, a top vodka brand with a presence across the world, filed for bankruptcy last week - with an apparent cybersecurity incident among the reasons.

In the bankruptcy filing, the company listed many reasons for its financial failings, including legal disputes with the Russian government, the country’s confiscation of two distilleries worth around $100 million, and a ransomware attack that allegedly happened in August 2024.

In the official document filed with the Texas bankruptcy court late last month, the company’s CEO Chris Caldwell discussed the cyberattack. “In August 2024, the Stoli Group's IT infrastructure suffered severe disruption in the wake of a data breach and ransomware attack,” he said.

"While I have been exiled from Russia since 2000 due to my opposition to Putin, I have remained proud of the Stolichnaya brand. Today, we have made the decision to rebrand entirely as the name no longer represents our organization. More than anything, I wish for 'Stoli' to represent peace in Europe and solidarity with Ukraine."

Holy fuck is business insider unreadable - without blocking their shitty scroll-up popup thingy

Currently I just switch to text mode/reader thing in Firefox

But boah, is that thing nerve-wracking
How could anyone think, that this bullshit would lead me to buy a subscription?

Sorry for the off-topic rant, but that shit really hits a nerve
Is my good old internet really gone to shit and the only way to get real information is through Gemini/Gopher?
And while I'm on it: are there any search engines for that?
I tried to build up some link lists/bookmarks for stuff I'm interested, but would be really cool to have a search engine for it - as there one existing I don't know about, or do I use it wrong?

Seems pretty coordinated.

The saddest part is that Russian hack groups are pretty decent. Weak worldwide and generally, but pretty good. These sad fucks could make a decent living elsewhere in the world working White Hat instead of these sadass ransomware gangs. Pathetic.

In Russia, bad hackers are promoted to infantry. They also cannot make a decent living elsewhere, because they are conscripted and cannot leave the country.

Fascism don’t even work well for the oligarchs. Take note, billionaires of America who think you’re going to like where fascism takes us.

I really don't like tech radar articles. There's no real information there. I know almost nothing more than just reading the headline. Clearly they mean a restructuring bankruptcy as there are mentions of future plans. But the headline makes it sound like liquidation.
