Summary

Musk is trying to backtrack on his previous demands to shut down the government.

Elon Musk initially supported a government shutdown, criticizing Republicans who backed a continuing resolution and calling for no new bills until Donald Trump retakes office.

His posts on X encouraged GOP hardliners and contributed to chaos in Congress.

After a bipartisan spending bill failed to pass, Musk blamed Democrats, ignoring that 38 Republicans also voted against it.

Facing backlash for his earlier remarks, Musk is now deflecting responsibility as House Speaker Mike Johnson struggles to avoid a shutdown.

He had no clue how to run a company either, unless you count "into the ground."

I can fly a plane all the way to the scene of the crash

[-] houstoneulers@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

No wonder Trump gravitated towards him. Game recognize game.

[-] vga@sopuli.xyz 19 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

No he fucking doesn't. He thinks he can do anything. Remorse is not a part of him. If he has any self-perception, he's primarily using it to figure out the best way to manipulate as many people as possible in the most efficient way.

I wonder if Trump will scapegoat Elon for this and fire him before taking office to prove that he works alone.

Firing Elon would deflate Musk's stocks and net worth, maybe even knock him off the richest man slot. A lot of that wealth is speculative gains priced into the market under the assumption that Musk will be very influential in Trump 47, and that he will use that position to benefit his businesses.

Trump wants to send the message that he, as president of the united states, has the power to dethrone the world's richest man with a simple "you're fired". Trump wants to make sure that the world knows that he rules alone, and that he has more power than money can buy.

Trump doesn't need to get reelected again. He doesn't need Elon manipulating the twitter algo anymore. Donny already won and got everything he wanted from Elon (assumption). Why should he keep playing with Musk if he's just going to keep getting tied up in all this stupid drama?

Seems very Trump-like to knock him down a peg for his hubris and let him come crawling back in a year or two. I think most of the world agrees that someone needs to do something about Musk's ego. It would probably give him a popularity boost to start his new term.

disclaimer: this is a prediction, not a recommendation or an approval of these tactics.

[-] Geobloke@lemm.ee 7 points 6 days ago

Hundred per cent, Donny is using Elon and will throw him under the bus at the first chance. You know what looks worse than a normal loser? A billionaire loser

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago

using Elon and will throw him under the bus at the first chance

I think you're giving him far too much credit. Elon is there because DT lacks object permanence. Once elon dissapears for 10 minutes, or DT sees some advantage to throwing him under the bus, he'll be gone. He doesn't have the mental capacity to use someone, he's like 2yo playing in the living room with toys.

[-] Geobloke@lemm.ee 4 points 5 days ago

I don't think you're giving him enough credit. He won the presidency twice despite an array of charges that threatened to put him in gaol and would've ended the political career of anyone else. You shouldn't like him, but underestimate him at your own risk

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 5 points 6 days ago

i selfishly approve and with limited cognition recommend these tactics

trump and elon are the two biggest divas on the planet and i hope the inevitable fallout between them hurts as many rich people (emotionally) as much as possible

too much fucking pride in this country. be ashamed for once, fuckers.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago

I mean, I wonder if dipshit really did think he had a clue at some point? I think imposter syndrome really SHOULD be a thing with more people, especially this motherfucker right here.

Also - I just realized The Circus was cancelled. That seems awfully convenient. I'm supposing that Showtime is also another "liberal" outlet just chock full of "liberals"....

[-] blazeknave@lemmy.world 22 points 6 days ago

Deport illegals, send his ass back where he came from

[-] Will8250@lemmings.world 18 points 6 days ago

Though I don't like Musk, I think deporting all illegals would be damaging to our society and economy.

[-] CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Can we just deport the one then? Arguably doing the most damage.

[-] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 3 points 6 days ago

I figured Melania would be the first to be deported.

Has anyone seen her lately? Did she already get disappeared?

[-] Will8250@lemmings.world 1 points 6 days ago
[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 1 points 6 days ago
  • woosh
  • but im not sure to what degree because Musk has his citizenship and he’s not an illegal
  • also your thought is correct! citation
[-] GladiusB@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

It absolutely will be. No citizen wants to work on a farm and do hard labor for minimum wage.

[-] MehBlah@lemmy.world 16 points 6 days ago

I bet that guy has trouble wiping his own ass.

[-] buttfarts@lemy.lol 3 points 6 days ago

No trouble at all! Marco does a fantastic job and powders it with lambswool afterwards.

[-] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

one only has to look at twitter to get that clear

[-] Jackcooper@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

I'm fucking mad about them cutting PBM reform and I hope other people are too.

[-] Granite@midwest.social 3 points 6 days ago

Most people don’t even know what PBMs do, and how it fucks then over.

[-] i_love_FFT@jlai.lu 3 points 5 days ago

PBM? Peanut butter and marmalade?

[-] Jackcooper@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

For sure. Education is all of our responsibility.

Republicans: Have a majority in the House

House spending bill: Fails to pass

How could Democrats do this??

[-] foggy@lemmy.world 77 points 1 week ago

See I'm not saying nothing horrible is gonna happen.

I just saying Im not as scared as the doomers.

They're all so fucking hungry for power they're gonna eat each other before we have to worry about eating the rich.

Fingers crossed.

[-] Infynis@midwest.social 62 points 1 week ago

Musk has been positioning himself pretty well to be a single big bad. I'm hoping he can cause enough fracturing and dysfunction to kill Project 2025

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 week ago

He is an insufferable weakling who is probably gonna be a focal point of hate within the Republican party. Also he is a South African, regardless of all other factors he is a foreigner and I hope he gets the Mick treatment.

I hate Musk far more than I hate bigotry, I encourage open bigotry and racism against the rich. At least then its useful.

Guarantee he hasn’t realized shit. In his mind, it was the best idea in the world when he had it, and now it’s the best idea in the world to walk it back. He’s so brilliant, he was right twice about the same thing.

Whoever wrote this headline hasn’t met a true narcissist.

[-] abigscaryhobo@lemmy.world 55 points 1 week ago

Not only that but he tweeted something around 100 times that day. Someone got their "special medicine" and went on a bender confident they knew everything. And now they've come down and they're confident they still do but can't admit they were off their gourd for a day. Like a typical narcissist yes.

[-] zbyte64@awful.systems 38 points 1 week ago

The guy has basically admitted takes K to not face personal accountability.

Corporate heads are virtually dictators by default.

No way Musk is used to people telling him no. Same as trump.

[-] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 53 points 1 week ago

That's why a lot of them are also rapists.

[-] billwashere@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

🤯… I never thought of it that way.

I wish actual bad things would happen to musk.

[-] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 27 points 1 week ago

Or even if something good like being able to learn from mistakes. Seems so unlikely.

Trump is going to realize very quickly that musk is a massive liability and, worse than that is his mind, wants to run the show himself.

The fallout between the two of them will be fun to watch. I predict musk will find out very quickly that “his” people on Twitter are actually Trump people.

[-] Klear@sh.itjust.works 20 points 6 days ago

Trump is going to realize

Bold claim.

[-] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

It’s not. Narcissist v narcissist. They’ll be fighting for the same attention.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago

Musk's inability to govern should have become apparent when he fired everyone at Twitter, scrambled to hire them back, and then got caught failing to do basic things like "pay rent".

[-] quafeinum@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Like when he did the same thing at spacex and Tesla?

[-] anarchrist@lemmy.dbzer0.com 33 points 1 week ago

No shit. Turns out being the world's richest failson is not a super useful skill? Who knew?

[-] halykthered@lemmy.ml 33 points 1 week ago

I don't believe in heaven, but people like this make me hope hell is real.

This is already starting out so well and they haven't even taken office. Have they started construction on the ceiling cutouts Elon will need to marionette the orange genius around with?
