Having buttons.
Everybody to the limit, the Cheat is to the limit, come on fhqwgads!
Razorblade kishi for 80bucks.
Most of my friends I know who went the kishi route instead of a stand alone emu handheld when I was rocking the rg355xxsp have since ditched it and acquired some manner of handheld, some even just opted for a legit GBA sp with a flashcart.
reasons I have heard:
Got tired of draining my battery
My phone doesn't have an SD slot and so I was not able/didn't want to load it with roms
it didn't fit in my pocket or was clumsy to use on the bus.
Your milage may vary. I still have a couple friends still just using their phone and they seem happy so take that as you will.
My kishi and s23uktra are my steam deck, Nintendo switch, emulator, rdp, note raking powerhouse.
I have a problem where the more devices I own. The less I use any of them. I'll spend my day just staring at them and then never commiting to playing them.
Emulation up to N64 and Dreamcast is craaaazy for such a small size. 90€ is a pretty good-ish price. Compared to new releases, it knocks everything out of the park and offers thousands of hours of gameplay across multiple generations of console - home and portable. Pretty insane if you think about it.
Just wondering how good the screen is and the buttons feel. I think a just "ok" screen would be fine, but the gameplay would still have to be smooth and the buttons should support the gameplay
Gonna catch some heat with this but I feel like this is just future e-waste. I think it's better to take advantage of old but good hardware to run stuff, like hacked Vitas or 3DSes. Even switches should be usable for retro stuff down the line.
I have vita and n3ds (both modded) and they have been collecting dust since I got the rg35xx-h. The form factor and most importantly portmaster makes it way better in my opinion.
3DS doesnt have portmaster or moonlight which is pretty cool about these devices. But yeah i do understand the ewaste sentiment especially since the people who buy these (me) have multiple devices that run the same games
Miyoo also doesn't have portmaster. Not sure about Moonlight.
The most "future-proof" sort of SBC game device would probably be an Android based one like the Odin, since Android software at least pretends to be consistent.
Ive heard this one will have moonlight since it uses a chip thats on other devices that have it. I havent looked in depth into it tho
Assuming the scale is the same or similar to the GBA SP back in the day, this looks horrendously un-ergogenomic…even as a kid the location of the buttons was sometimes awkward to hold for longer sessions, also the lower down place of those thumb sticks would make it 10 times worse!
They've been teasing this thing forever it feels, but it does look great. The world needs more clamshell handhelds.
Edit: That D-pad though... That doesn't look comfortable.
I had the ambernick SP and it was my worst purchase this year. The hinge snapped in the first month and the os was crap.
I own Anbernic RG35XX, which runs the same default os. My tip with this one: don’t bother with the default. There are way better operating systems for it and installing takes like 5 minutes. Although if the hinge snapped it might be a bit too late for this advice
I've got a 353p and I love the form factor, but I'd like to use it more as a console attached to the TV. The default OS keeps forgetting the mapping on the Bluetooth controllers I've got, though, so I need to remap them for every game. Have you got a recommendation for a better setup, such that I could leave the thing plugged into the TV and not have to manually reconfigure it every time I start a new game?
I had mu os banana on it the last 2 weeks, was fun until the hinge snapped. Ambernick support said it was user error and then ignored me...
Ill wait for reviews especially since the black one looks like it might be very smudgy/fingerprint prone
Of course this comes out like 2 weeks after I pick up an R36S.
I'm waiting for v2 probably around mid next year. The hinge kinda concerns me. The price isn't bad at all.
