I received a new watch as a Christmas gift.

It's the Vaer S5 Tradition which originally came with a silicone and khaki nylon strap. Since I prefer nato straps, I swapped it for my old watch strap. It's a 40 mm case with sapphire crystal and screwdown crown. The lume is honestly better than I expected.

Anyone else watch the new Ghibli movie and want the knife?

@edc

Studio Ghibli's new movie, The Boy and the Heron, prominently places quite a few traditional Japanese knives, including kitchen knives, a sword, and the boy's pocket knife, a Higonokami. They're a carbon steel friction folder. I just thought it was a vibe seeing it in the movie.

If you want to buy one, fuck Amazon and Chinese copies, go directly to the source!
Edit: higonokami-knife.com may be less legit than others. See comment

Today's EDC (lemmy.one)
submitted 1 year ago by mouth_brood@lemmy.one to c/edc@sopuli.xyz

Keys - Jeep Gladiator with Threedom Key Fob Mod, Gerber Shard, Random Keychain Spinner

Wallet - Ridge Carbon Fiber 3k

Vape Pen - Boulder Rock, currently running Bad Drips Drooly

Watch - Perpetual movement with exposed interior. No clue the brand, no markings or indications anywhere and it was a gift

Knife - Kershaw Scallion with Fossilized Mammoth Tooth Handle

Fidget - Dual Gear Bike Chain Spinner

Before you ask "isn't it super to be every day carry, yuk, yuk?", I'm just gonna jump out ahead of it:

Well, technically speaking, every day is inclusive of today. I may very well carry these items with me at all times, with no deviation, and would still be correct by submitting a new post with the title Today's Every Day Carry.

I interpret Every Day Carry to mean that we all carry basically the same stuff every day. But what do you have today.

My EDC is: phone, keys, wallet, watch, knife, fidget, vape, guitar pick. Sharing the variations of our own EDC is what makes this interesting and fun. It provides some personal insight into another individual that you'll probably never meet, who could be living anywhere in the world, living a life completely differently from your own.

  • Otis Club 100
  • Titanium Tweezer
  • Air Island Metal Comb
  • Mr. Green Ultra Thin Nail Clipper

  • Keysmart Vegan Leather AirTag Compact Keyholder
  • Olight I1R 2 Pro Eos
  • Stainless steel rattlesnake clip

My favorite part is the way my grooming kit and pen fit into my minimalist wallet. Always handy to have a nail clipper, comb, and pen in your back pocket taking up as little space as few credit cards.

I made the same post on !pensandpaper@lemmy.ml

I'm looking for a high quality pen. I currently have a rotring 600, twsbi ballpoint, and trcpc bolt action pen. I would like to try more high quality machined pens. I exclusively use parker iso g2 refills so that is a requirement.

The Kizer Varatas is pretty astounding for my first titanium framelock. Dangling from the Alpaka Modular Sling is a Fidget Things Switch. As the name implies, it houses a mechanical keyboard switch for fidgeting. The sling is pretty great for a compact carry off body.

phone: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

pen: Pilot G-2 .07

earbuds: Tozo T6

USB drives: Samsung USB-C 64GB and 256GB

knife: Gerber EAB Exchange a blade

wallet: Chums Surfshort Wallet

The Leatherman nylon sheath with pockets is absolutely perfect for my needs, but I can't stand that you have to feed a belt through it.

Has anyone found a way to convert the belt loop to a clip?

I just browsed through the top 100 posts or so here and you guys have amazong stuff that I've often didn't ever seen in my life but nobody has a phone or a USB drive. I feel like this community is from 50 years ago. Or is there an actual reason?

I've been carrying a little packet of cough lozenges in my pocket for a while, because I will need them at the randomest times, but the package is getting a little beat up now. I'm worried it might rip open at some point.

What do you use to carry them around?

This is what I typically carry in my pockets most days. I have a fuller load out in a sling bag that I take depending on the day’s activities, usually if I’ll be out and about with the dogs.

  • Old Hound slip and San Mai knife with titanium frame, desert ironwood scales and pearl inlay. (Love this knife!!)
  • Handkerchief
  • Street brass Zippo with refillable butane insert
  • Grav dugout set
  • Car key
  • Modern Carry slim leather card wallet
  • House and mailbox keys

Not pictured:

  • Phone and smart watch.

Nothing particularly original, but it's mine, so here goes.

  • Earfun Free 2: good for listening to podcasts on the go.
  • House keys: well, duh.
  • Olight imini: handy and really tiny flashlight.
  • Mini push dagger: oldest thing in there, got it more than 20 years ago. Says "United" & "Taiwan" on the sheath, so it likely is from United Cutlery.
  • Kershaw Launch 11: my current all-time favorite pocket knife. Small enough to fit in a 5th pocket (but not "deep-carry"), yet handles really well with my not-too-meaty hands.
  • Bellroy Card Sleeve Black: small enough to keep credit cards and such in regular pants' front pockets.
  • Zippo Lighter Spectrum: really a fidget toy for me since I do not smoke, so pretty though !
  • Kleenex mini pocket tissues: the runny nose unwavering companion.

Not on picture: Samsung Galaxy S20 with a Spigen Tough Armor case.
