Not sure if it's a great idea to share pics of your keys like that.

Regardless, very cool, love your wallet! lol

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The housekeys are pretty blurry there, and if you saw my decrepit old car you'd realize no one would ever try to steal it lol

[-] Mothra@mander.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

I'm as naive as you could imagine- what is wrong with sharing photos of house keys?

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It's been suggested that someone could possibly make an actual copy of a key from a picture. I couldn't tell you if there's any truth to it though

[-] mycatiskai@lemmy.one 9 points 1 year ago

I can see it is a kwikset key and the heights of the cuts, but anyone who can make a key from looking at the key probably knows how to pick the lock faster than making a key.

[-] finn1sher@mstdn.ca 2 points 1 year ago

@MrJameGumb @Mothra Oh, there's absolutely truth to it and it could easily be done, but you're right that picking locks isn't that difficult either. Long story short, locks on doors have always been a deterrent from people breaking in, not a hard block. That's how it always will be, and I think that's okay

If you're a celebrity or "content creator" though I would highly recommend against ever showing your keys online

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Point taken! I'll have to look up some videos on it lol

Thankfully I'm neither "famous", nor do I really have anything worth stealing. I'm pretty sure if someone wanted to rob me they'd just wait until I leave and bash the door in, but they'd be very disappointed lol

[-] Mothra@mander.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

So... Someone skilled enough to figure out where you live AND to make a usable key from a photo could break into your home if they come across this image online. Got it

A man after my own heart! (Drunken rant incoming my new friend!)

Loving O-light. Tried the O-bulbs? (That's the basic model, some are multi-color.) Got 12 of 'em for hanging around my campsite and emergencies, same charger as yours. Give me 12 more and I'd want 100 more.

S2R Baton II on my AR, and despite not being a "weapon light", or having been bought for that purpose, 1,000+ rounds haven't shaken it up. Think I saw an ad last week with white bodies again! Couldn't find one after I bought that a few years ago.

Your Baton looks like a great pocket carry. Been tempted to try one. Got a tiny Wurkkos TS10 last month, love it, hellacious operating system though. And don't pass on the Nitecore Tube for EDC!

My Seeker 2 is the basically this: https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/flashlights_2x.png Too heavy for EDC, but if I'm spending time in the woods after dark, it's a mainstay.

Never had a legit Benchmade. I assume it's top notch? Never felt rich enough for one. :) I do love me some Kershaw though! The Phillips and flat on the keychain, does that work well? Seems really smart.

My gf (now wife!) turned me onto Casio. She's Filipina so it's, "cash-yo". :) She got me a sweet G-Shock, but the chartreuse band was unspeakably tacky. Got an Army green, "outdoorsy" looking band, wear it for kayaking and hiking. She also gave me a W-215H and I got her the pink version! They've taking a beating so far.

Your watch is DOPE! Getting one now. Thank you so much for showing me that, I'm in love! It's laugh-out-loud funny that a $30 watch can be so tough and practical.

The "wallet" is brilliant. I save every broccoli band. If you want a "fatter" wallet, ever looked at a Trayvax? Can't find my model ATM, but I felt stupid paying $65 for a wallet. Yeah, it's a legit BIFL product. I've beat that thing to death over the last 4-years, looks brand new. Had a guy tell me he had one of the originals, stretchy bit wore out, factory fixed it, no-questions-asked.

And the bracelet speaks to my punker days in the 80's. What's "vegetarian leather"? I am intrigued.

Maybe I should have just made my own post? Anyway, we should be friends.

EDIT: Jesus. Just noted your username. I'll put whatever in the basket! Please don't come find me.

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

That's a lot to take in lol!

I have a few Benchmades and they're some of the best knives in my collection, but yeah they are a little overpriced. The Barrage Mini is one of my very favorites of all of my knives though! It's got the most comfortable handle, and the size makes it very versatile. This one I actually paid extra to have customized in their design shop with Bret "Hitman" Hart colors and it even says "excellence of execution" on the blade because I am a gigantic nerd lol

I never leave the house without that Baton 3! It's just the right size to not take up too much room in my pocket, and the magnetized base has all kinds of great uses. I recently found a new use for the two way pocket clip! I was waking home from the store after dark and realized if I clipped it pointing down into my shopping bag it turns it into a bag shaped lantern lol

I have beat this watch to hell in the last 3 years but you can barely tell. It's ended up underwater on a number of occasions and never had any issues!

I don't know what they make vegetarian leather out of, but it feels just like real leather to me, is a fraction of the price, and holds up a pretty long time. Real leather would probably be a little more durable, but that shits expensive lol

So just some cards rubber banded together? I guess it works, as long as you keep track of it the same as your wallet. I’d be worried I couldn’t pay attention to it the same way I do my wallet. I’ve been learning to treat my wallet in a special way for almost 40 years now

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

It keeps everything so slim that I can keep this in my side pocket instead of my back pocket, so I actually keep better track of it than I have regular wallets lol

Also, when you keep a few dollar bills wrapped around the cards like that you can slide them in and out very easily! Without some paper money around the outside it doesn't work very well

[-] LdyMeow@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I live the rubber band that’s amazing

[-] tychosmoose@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Upvote for the produce rubber band wallet. I usually prefer one from celery or collard greens, but broccoli is good too.

[-] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Bah! Everyone knows the broccoli band is the superior band. (Why is that one pink?! Mine are all purple.)

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Do they use different color bands for different vegetables? I've been using this one a long time now, it's possible it may have come from a cauliflower instead lol

[-] finn1sher@mstdn.ca 1 points 1 year ago

@MrJameGumb @shalafi The broccoli at my grocery store is usually pink or yellow bands. Specifically within this chain they use pink bands to mark organic produce but the conventional broccoli also came with pink bands. We have a whole stash at home of the generic red and blue bands you get on lettuce, carrots etc, quite handy

[-] asceticism@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

World time, respect 😁 nice load out

[-] ForestOrca@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Broccoli band wallet FTW! I've been using this method for years now. Nice EDC! Carry on!

[-] brb@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I'm confused, why are you guys carrying so much garbage with you?

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I do not have time for your nonsense today.

[-] brb@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago

I'm genuinely confused. You carry all that stuff but then you don't even have a proper wallet?

[-] finn1sher@mstdn.ca 2 points 1 year ago

@brb @MrJameGumb As someone who carries a swiss army knife and flashlight everywhere, I get the point of "carrying all that garbage". But I agree that minimalist wallets have gotten too popular these days and regular wallets that actually make using cash convenient are hard to find.

It seems like everyone pays with plastic nowadays - or their phone with some proprietary system developed by big tech. I can be lazy, but prefer to use cash

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I have about five so called "proper" wallets. This works better. Also explain to me which item is "garbage"? It's a watch a flashlight and a knife, pretty standard EDC stuff

[-] brb@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 year ago

All the stuff in your keychain seem useless, your phone already has flashlight, carrying knife is just plain weird, the watch and the bracelet I can understand as fashion items.

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

And you felt the need to express this opinion on an EDC forum where literally everyone carries these items? So it seems you are just a troll after all. Got it. I will make sure to disregard any further troll foolishness from you.

Have a nice day

[-] brb@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago

I mean yeah, where else am I supposed to ask it if not in the forum that is made for it?

[-] finn1sher@mstdn.ca 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

@brb @MrJameGumb [1/3] Fair enough, where else could one ask? Lemme explain...

Everyone has an every day carry - wallet, keys, phone, etc. Many women have an extended EDC in their purse like wipes, an umbrella, bandaids, makeup etc. The internet community is mostly men who like to extend their EDC to be more prepared.

The idea is reducing friction in everyday tasks, always being ready to help people, fix things, etc. I don't use my knife most days, but when I need to, it's handy!

[-] finn1sher@mstdn.ca 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

@brb @MrJameGumb [2/3] If you have a phone, a small flashlight isn't mandatory as a survival tool, but it's immensely useful as it's still brighter. With my tiny light I can briefly light up a room on "turbo" to improve the lighting in a photo, check if that silhouette in the distance is a deer or a cougar (I live in a city lol), or in an emergency save my phone's battery. The lowest brightness of this light can run for weeks.

Your EDC can be useful for survival, work, or fulfilment.

[-] finn1sher@mstdn.ca 1 points 1 year ago

@brb @MrJameGumb [3/3] Lastly, about knives...

I don't suggest the use of a knife for self defense. The winner of a knife fight is the one that bleeds out in the ambulance, and most people aren't trained in how to avoid that. Most of the weapon-y looking pocketknives people post are strictly there as tools!

If we're being honest, they're mostly for opening boxes, letters, cutting fruit, little mundane things. The swiss army knife is the world's most popular style of pocketknife for a reason :)
