As devops/infra guy, few technical things sprang into mind:

• are there any (hw) redundancies at server side?
• what happens if current admin gets hit by a bus?
• if instance dies permanently, what happens to its users and posts?
• is the vps virtual or real?
• if the vps is compromised or something explodes, are there any off-site backups?

All this post talks about is on going to an instance on your android favorite browser (mines Mull), click on 3 dots (options) and install/add to home screen, so the instance will show in webview/webapp version

For some reason, when trying to use webview version of sopuli, the wv crashes instantly, but, at lemmy.world or lemmy.ml for example it works flawlessly. Any idea why can it be?

Tomorrow from 18:00 onwards Sopuli will be down for some time. During this time, the Hetzner VPS will be scaled up (quad-core procesor and 16 GB of RAM) and other measures will be taken.

Update 04.07.2023: The maintenance is done and Sopuli is up again!

i'm new to lemmy, trying it out if i like it. One thing that bothers me is how inconsistent the UI is so i made this css to make lemmy-ui more easy for my eyes and thought why not share it. Maybe someone else would like it too.

You can install it with Stylus browser extension or whatever method you prefer.

Be aware that it may break some things, but i will likely improve it if i decide to stay on lemmy.

I have recently claimed the community !chess@lemmy.ml. When I browse the original instance, my username is in the mod list. But browsing from sopuli, the mod list is empty, and I don't have access to any mod tools.

I have gotten messages from several registered users that have not received a verification email. Their accounts are not therefore verified, and they have had to resort to logging in through password reset. This seems to a problem that has sparked discussions. If you have not received a verification email, message me and I will set you verified. Check also your spam folders! I also added this to the FAQ.

Is it possible to improve the Finnish localization? E.g. Joined is translated to "liittyi" ("it joined") which doesn't make any sense in the actual context for "being subscribed". I think "Jäsen" (member) would be better expression for clarity or at least "Liitytty" ([have been] joined).

Another weird one is "Viesti" ("message"/"communicate") for send message button. I think it feels like "a message" as a noun and not as "to message" verb. "Lähetä" ("Send") would be much more understandable for Finnish speakers.

I can only subscribe randomly. Usually when I search for the instance and click the link in search results, sometimes when I click back and forth links.

If I write the url, by hand I just see a "subscribe" text with no button functionality. How can I fix this/subscribe then?

I'm using Brave (Versio 1.48.171 Chromium: 110.0.5481.177.)

I've always used this instance in Italian, set automatically when I first loaded it. Today it is now in English. Is there a setting to revert it back, or is the Italian language no longer supported?

The latest 0.18 version of Lemmy was released an hour ago and Sopuli will be updated to it at 18:15. Be vary of possible instance downtime.

I now also made a Patreon page in case you are interested in supporting Sopuli and ensuring its longevity.

Many communities show "Waiting for approval" upon click the subscribe button twice (first time it does nothing).

While I am technically now already following those communities, they still show as I am not approved on it. Whats going on?

btw latest version of Jebroa displays a warning that 0.17.* is lower the the minimum supported version.

Just wondering if it's a problem with Sopuli, me / my VPN, or trying to load communities on other instances?

Or is there something I just don’t understand? For example this post only seems to show on lemmy.world. Posts in the other direction seems to travel fine.

Hey there, so I registered to Sopuli recently and I'm still getting through the transition out of Reddit, I'll admit right now I'm enjoying the shit show too much to step away but once RiF stops working, I'm probably gonna be around here a lot more.

But right now my feed seems completely dead. I spent some time subscribing to some popular communities from different servers and I try browsing local, all and subscribed. Both hot and active serves me posts that are days, sometimes weeks old.

What can I do to get more content in my feed? I was just browsing the kbin front page (without an account) and was seeing fresher posts from Lemmy servers than I'm getting in Jerboa so it must be something wrong on my end and not just that's there's too little content.

Right now gifs seem to have a loader and don't play unless the user manually clicks on it. Any ideas?

I keep getting a SyntaxError saying something isn't valid JSON/can't be converted to JSON. Any idea on what that means and how to address it?

Lemmy's algorithm seems to mostly show highly upvoted memes from two or three days ago, without any new comments in the past 24 hours. For example, I did not see c/Suomi's weekend thread despite it being newer and having like 40 comments. Is this normal or have I botched my settings?

This is probably a feature and not a bug but when I get a reply to a message and I click to see the context it takes me out of sopuli and logs me out. I think it's because it's on a sub that's on another instance but I'm not sure. Still trying to figure out this platform.

EDIT: Apparently clicking the non-colored context button takes me to the message but doesn't log me out

I haven't been getting emails from a few recent notifications. The most recent mail is from 14.6

As adjustments have to made regarding how this instance sends email, registration has been temporarily disabled. I can't really estimate how long this will take. Today I also updated the FAQ.

EDIT 20.06.2023: The problem is now fixed and registrations are open again.

When I made a post, it takes multiple tries to send it.

Most of the times the Create button on browser will spin indefinitely, needing to create the post again. When it is decided the post would be sent, it is instead sent immediately without wait.
