I came here hoping to see gnome and X11 memes. You know, actual Linux memes.
Instead I found "Windows bad" circlejerking.

Gentoo and Arch is for wanabees, the hardcore use Linux From Scratch as their distro.

You need a book to tell you how to install Linux? I guess we were all a noob at one point.
There's many steps to remember when you have to first create your building environment before you can compile all the basic components for your own distro, and it's always good when you manually lookup configure and compile your dependencies, I know it's all excuses for not memorising the steps but there you go.
I don't think the bank will accept "I need to install Firefox" as the reason for a loan to pay my electricity bill.
Joking aside though, Gentoo was a great experience for me to learn how Linux actually works.
I never got it running, but I definitely learned some things. I need to try it again someday when I have a lot of free time and a spare laptop.

No, I'm on All, but a far higher percentage than most other content is just the same message in slightly different words on repeat, "Linux good, Binbows bad."

Why do so many memes seem to be about windows then? 🤔
It's kind of hard to tell since the Linux memes are in all the other communities as well.
Well that's because Lemmy needs more users
They're not gonna get any if we keep making all communities about hating Microsoft Windows and capitalism.
They could use some memes making fun of our community instead of making fun of the rest.
Let's be honest, Linux isn't a viable option for a big portion of society. I love working in Linux but it's not perfect for those that aren't techsavy and need more than a browser.
Linux Mint is absolutely usable by most of the population. What it isn't good at is business sector stuff because that entire sector is captured by Microsoft and its proprietary ecosystem. If interoperability was the focus, it wouldn't be an issue. But capturing the population is the goal, so companies get these anti-user designs that lock you into their ecosystems. Maybe you need centralized development to achieve stuff like Azure and all its capabilities.
LibreOffice can take care of the business stuff. Or, Hell, just Google Docs.
