I think that being raised by Heiter compensates it a bit. Heiter was often cheerful and supportive and, even if ~~a bit of~~ a lot of a drunkard, surprisingly humane.
Heiter said that he had quit drinking, so Fern did not get to see him like that at least. Which is how she seems him in a positive light. Unlike how Frieren remembers Heiter being, at least from their traveling days.
