Airbnb, in a statement, said the legislation will not alleviate the housing crisis but instead will take money out of people's pockets, inflate the cost of accommodations for visitors and decrease tourism revenue.

Yeah we already had a dumbass on the radio stating he (totally wasn't a landlord) but that the government shouldn't interfere in the use of property people bought for a given purpose, totally ignoring that these properties are being run as businesses often:

  • without a business license

  • While not properly declaring taxes

  • In areas not zoned for business use

All the of those have been around for longer than AirBnB or the STR craze have existed. Just the zoning thing and the headaches neighbors have faced with these - which are more like hotels than rental properties - should have been enough to put a clamp on it
