Just as a addendum to this, there's a book "What Lies Beneath" What lies Beneath with a super interesting foreword by Hans Joachim Schellnhuber about the very real dangers of relying on statistical models and doing nothing.

You don't have to read the entire book but I'd encourage everyone interested to read the foreword.

Climate optimism is just cope of the highest order. Some people will repeat the idea that 'we need significant, global mobilization comparable to a world war to minimize climate change' and then also assure you that these 'little wins' should instill optimism in you. Current power structures will never sufficiently reduce man's impact on the climate.

These are just my thoughts off the headline, I haven't finished reading the article yet, but damn does the double think piss me off.

This is the place for discussing the potential collapse of modern civilization and the environment.

Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.
