It sounds like it’s really just a struggle of them trying to sell access to women and women are largely avoiding people who are trying to purchase access. It’s basically the swinger bar problem, they charge extra for men so women get in free but this results in the men feeling entitled and the women being surrounded by desperate men. A friend is in the process of learning how to be a femdom, and exploring her interest in it and attended an event for it, where she was surrounded by desperate men acting weird and one other woman. I’ve heard very similar things about dating apps from both men and women (I’m a lesbian so it’s an entirely different kind of terrible for me).
