For some reason despite not owning one I have alot of interaction with Canal Boaters.

They are always interested in information about places and services along canals and I was trying to think of the best way of explaining how the contribute and use Openstreetmap

Of course contributing is easy - I just recommend mapcomplete.org, everydoor app, and street complete (less so as its road related)

And then I recommend an App like OSMAnd to use Openstreetmap - But for Canal Boaters specifically - Is there any way they could use layers or searches, any tips, tricks or Apps specifically get information that would be useful for them or be useful if in a canal boat?

I don't know if it's any good but in theory I think OsmAnd can route over canals in its 'Nautical' theme.

It supposedly shows amenity=sanitary\_dump\_station so if a pump out has that tag it could be handy for some users. but at the moment all it's doing for me is crash.

Cool yeah. I will try that. So the #theme determines what items get shown in #Osmand ?

@abeorch@fosstodon.org @abeorch@lemmy.ml @openstreetmap to an extent. E.g. the seamark variant of that feature is meant to render in that view.

Annoying the closest one I can find tagged as for land doesn't seem to be showing up on my phone. This is a bit confusing as it's listed in taginfo as being used for creating maps.

OK, so it looks like the nautical view only shows the seamark tagging for that feature and the land based tagging only shows if you search for it. The waterway tagging appears not to be in use. I might put a request on the issue tracker for this.

Images attached but will probably only show in Mastodon.

The campersite theme on mapcomplete shows sanitary dump stations as well

@pietervdvn yeah I was just trying to create one for the equivalent waterways tags, but I'm finding the studio really confusing.

@pietervdvn

I managed it, had to look at some examples to see how things were meant to work. I'll see if I can cobble together the layers I have done into a theme.

Would you mind on elaborating how you would expect it to work?

@pietervdvn When I wrote that I'd got stuck trying to add questions _into_ the title. Which obviously went very badly.

I ended up looking at another example to see where the various bits of information were meant to go and then got the hang of it a bit more.

I also ran into some things where I thought I was completely misunderstanding another thing and it turned out to be a weird bug. I've typed up the one I could reproduce, but I also had e.g. 'TypeError: s[h[1]] is undefined"
