the allegations i am aware of are of him keeping early teenage girls around as sex slaves, among generally weird shit with children... topic is rather controversial same as with Mohamed and American celebraties in second half of 20th century where followers will explain "it was a different time"
I looked into it some, and the closest I could find was some biographies say he slept in a bed with his grandnieces to prove his commitment to his vow of chastity. But that was about everything I found that wasn't just some random people saying he was a rapist without sources.
None of it was super substantial and several reports I saw were directly conflicting (for example one said he forced himself on his wife and it was so bad she would throw up after, the next said he had to force himself to have sex with his wife and that he would throw up after because he was so repulsed by sex).
It seems like he was definitely racist towards South Africans, but most everything on the pedophile/sexual deviant side seems made up or conflicting with no proper sources. Until someone shows me something better I'm inclined to not put any weight into those claims.
He was racist in his early life. He was born in second half of 19th century and went through education system designed by Brits.
But his views changed after he witnessed the Zulu uprising. Not immediately but they did.
One thing you have to remember is even after he returned to India, he still believed that the Empire (and the West by extension) were leading the human civilizations and their progress. He and many other Indian leaders were demanding home rule (the country would still be part of the British empire). The catalyst from home rule to complete independence was the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
So yeah, it took him a long time to reject the notion of white superiority.
As for his experiments about sexuality, he was deeply flawed. He didn't have sex with anyone, including his own wife, when he started his experiments with celibacy.
As you may know he got married when he was 13. When he was 16, his father died when Gandhi was with his wife and the same year the couple had a child that lived only for few days. It's not hard to see how this could've contributed to his views about sex and abstinence.
What he needed was a therapist to work on this feelings, if you ask me.
That's a fair take... not going to dispute allegations are shakey... but so was that Christina fundy who was fucking his own kids until people came out.
I doubt anyone will ever come for this Ghandi since everyone is prolly about dead now and his acolytes covered up well.
I still don't think it is proper to have him un a game played by children.
