I don't really get going to political rallies at all, but what kind of losers with nothing better to do go to a political rally of your opponent.

[-] SGforce@lemmy.ca 190 points 2 months ago

It's an attempt to intimidate or even start a fight. You know, like brownshirts.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago

So… do you think the brown comes from Dear Leader’s diaper?

[-] mhague@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Silver shirts to red caps.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 months ago

I would have loved to see them fucking try. This isn't 1939

[-] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

Ehhh, I don't know about that assessment

[-] RedditRefugee69@lemmynsfw.com 9 points 2 months ago

I can confirm it is 2024.

[-] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

In 1939, they came with billy bats and sticks and actually got into fistfights.

Today, they come with assault rifles and bombs. I don't want to see them "try" anything, thank you.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Into a packed, well guarded (especially so after two failed assassination attempts of another candidate) arena?

Good luck even getting inside.

[-] OlinOfTheHillPeople@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

They've been trying for at least 8 years.

[-] runjun@lemmy.world 76 points 2 months ago

I went to a Bernie rally. Only time I’ve wanted to go to a rally before or since.

[-] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago

Same. He was amazing in Washington Sq Park in 2016

[-] nomous@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Saw him in 2016, it was good. He did just kind of repeat thr exact same talking points he always hit but he was definitely passionate and the crowd loved him.

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Same, it felt like we had a chance to go forward

[-] Nightsoul@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Same, Bernie is a cool dude, would have loved to see him be president

[-] Kalkaline@leminal.space 29 points 2 months ago

I went to a Bernie Sanders rally, it was 🔥

[-] Monstrosity@lemm.ee 28 points 2 months ago

I actually love the fact that stadiums full of people go to political rallies and get jazzed about policy speeches. It's strange, right? But I'm glad it's something we get collectively psyched about. In a democracy, it (usually) feels healthy.

When you phrase it that way it does sound good. I’m not the most statist girl you’ll meet, but I’m very pro civic duty, and caring is the least you can do.

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 4 points 2 months ago

I’d be down for people going to Trump rallies to harass and abuse him.

[-] auzy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Problem is, there is no exit strategy.

Apparently at a few of his rallies attendees have been stuck without buses. He doesn't care what happens after

Also, he doesn't pay his bills for the rallies apparently either to the city

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I went to a Bernie rally in college with a friend and my mom. Despite that description it was actually a lot of fun, but it was bernie in 2016 and hope hadn’t yet died.
