Sure, the corporations will save us. Btw have you seen the new Disney planned communities?

[-] Retrograde@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

I don't usually side with corporations, but when I do, it's because they are at war with Ron desantis

[-] Maeve@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I know. It’s just sad that this is a “best” hope.

[-] Retrograde@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah it's pretty dystopian and sad for sure

[-] Maeve@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Yep. Let’s see how it plays out.

[-] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

No, and I’m not holding Disney up on a pedestal by any means, but they seem to be the only ones who can really speak up to Ron’s rhetoric and actions and have a meaningful impact (like the monorail thing).

The enemy of my enemy and such.

Sure, until Robert bin Iger flips and turns the Mousekedeen into the Tinkerban.

I don’t think he will (waaayyyyy too much IP & $$$ on the line, plus the cost of basically rebranding a fuck ton of shit from rides to merch to movies/TV), but if he does, he can go stand by one of those Disney lakes with the gators and cry about his dwindling million dollar bonuses.

The board and investors would be pissed off too because their wallets depend on him making good decisions.

[-] Maeve@kbin.social -1 points 1 year ago

They’ll turn on you, on a dime.

[-] bitsplease@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

You can enjoy the fact that Disney is fucking with DE Santis without "siding" with them in any meaningful way

[-] Maeve@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago

And I do. But that is a dual edged sword, and I’m not kidding myself.

[-] stephen01king@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 year ago

Sure, but until then, who can fight him more effectively?

I did k-12 in Celebration, are they really trying that Stepfordian experiment again?

[-] Maeve@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Yes they are. Apologies for the crap source but a quick search will pull up the medium of your choice: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/disney-storyliving-communities/index.html
