I've just... never really seen trash in a field in the countries I've lived in. Must be an "uncivilised country" thing I'm too civilised to know about

It‘s about money. And that‘s it. Rich countries can simply afford do clean up after their civilised citizens. And what do they also do? They export the rubbish to poor countries.
It's about upbringing. Being taught not to expect someone to clean up after you, and to respect where you live
