You're delusional if you think Canada will ever decouple its economy from the country it shares a multi thousand kilometre land border with
Trump is doing the uncoupling, though what we need to do is to expand our horizons: EU, UK, Ukraine, Turkey, and yes, Mexico—instead of trying to throw it under a bus to appease Trump.
Our economy used to be tied to the crown

That it can function otherwise and stability helps in the long run
