I loved D1 and D2, putting in literally THOUSANDS of hours, and dropped it like it was hot when they cut out 1/2 the content in the game. Restore the vaulted content and I'll come back. Without that, it's clear you don't value the time and money I invested.
Exact same arc for me, except I won't go back. The quality of expansions has dropped as the prices increase and they've done that stupid Avengers shit where they've just escalated too high too many times for most of it to feel like it matters anymore
So far as a video game matters, of course
The first d2 dlc - curse of Osiris - was bad so I played a lot less, then with the dreaming city they started it so other players advanced the story in my world. So now I'm no longer the cool #1 Guardian who saved the world: that is canonically the first fireteam to finish the 24h world first raid race. Not a terrible crime but it breaks one's immersion when it feels like Zavala and Ikora are coming to me because Gladd and Sweatsicle aren't available.
Then they vaulted all the content, kept digging deeper into the bad jokes unfunny humor, and added FOMO seasonal content that although nothing gets sunset/vaulted any more - if you can't play for a few weeks you miss out on major characters dying or whole arcs being finished without you.
I know this is much memed on - I have 97 kids and can only play 4 seconds a month... - but honestly, it sucks. I can still play side quests in skyrim... ff12... fallout 1... balders gate 2... from decades ago - but not AAA game Destiny 2? Bullshit man.
Ended up dropping for good toward the end of beyond light, my partner and I primarily pvped (just for fun, wasn't super into ranked honestly) and was feeling really stale, was getting tired of only control (easily my least favourite gamemode) for 6s and only elim or showdown for 3s got dry, missed a variety of game modes (and personally liked 4s). It sucked because destiny had really fun PvP and amazing guns, hand cannons will be the iconic weapons to me, rolled with a chaperone/hc combo or hc/fusion rifle since house of wolves, they got bows right too, the lemonarque was fantastic.
I love the core game play loop so, I went back to it in May. It really hurt not being able to do my favorite activities. I think I play one month out of every year. Why can’t someone make a good game with these mechanics?
Yup. I went from playing daily, a couple hours a day, to 0 overnight. Way to go Bungo!
I went back only twice, first to see what it was like on Steam Deck and second after getting a gaming PC.
Less than an hour each time.
You ran windows on a steam deck or did they fInally allow linux users to play?
Ran Windows on the Steam Deck. Set up an external USB-C SSD.
Ah ok.
