LOL I was ready to defend the driver, having pulled in on the wrong side of the pump once or twice. I drive different cars, and while most have it on the driver's side, one vehicle I drive regularly has it on the opposite side, so I have occasionally made the mistake.

But then I corrected it by turning the car around and pulling into the pump on the correct side...

on the dashboard, there is an arrow next to the fuel icon. It shows which side to fill.

[-] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

But every time I pull around to the other side, the arrow keeps pointing away from the pumps!

[-] kofe@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

On some models yeah. I've had cars that didn't

Usually the fuel cap is on the passenger side according to the country of origin, so for example European = right side, Japanese = left side. It's not 100% bullet proof but it can eliminate a bit of the guess work if the car doesn't have an arrow to indicate such side the cap is on.

In this thread, user who has never driven an American car but thinks they know things

There are cars that don't have arrows to indicate the side of the fuel cap on the fuel meter? Well, if they exist, I have definitely never seen one.

But these are just two different standards. What if your car isn't European or Japanese?

This is such baseless bullshit

[-] TedZanzibar@feddit.uk 1 points 3 days ago

If it doesn't have an arrow then the correct side is denoted by whether the fuel icon itself has the hose on the left or right.

More importantly, unless you drive something the size of a bus, it doesn't matter which side you park, it'll still reach fine.

[-] frayedpickles@lemmy.cafe 2 points 3 days ago

At Costco and other high volume stores yes because they're designed that way. Normal gas stations not so.

Is this an American thing? They're long enough where I am.
