LCDs do tend to speak somewhat standardised languages, but there is a lot more to a modern TV than just an LCD controller.

Color and white balance calibration, image/motion processing, HDR Processing, backlight control/dimming zones, input management, audio decoding/encoding/passthrough, digitizing analogue sources, HDMI licencing, Dolby licencing, etc.

If you want a better smart TV the best thing to do is to get a hackable TV like most android based models, replace the launcher, strip out system apps and telemetry with ADB and start fresh, then either leave it offline or use filtering to only allow access to the services you approve.

We know spez' secrets too.

Dude loved the jailbait subreddit before it was banned for obvious reasons.

He was a moderator.

Ah, yes, the guy that obviously put a lot of money into intel shares or attempting to short AMD right around the launch of Zen architecture and got so butthurt about his poor investment that he started actively falsifying data and writing ridiculous unhinged reviews of amd products to make intel look better.

Then they should be fined for wasting the courts time, and spreading misinformation.

I wish TCL would stop referring to it as electronic paper, it's a matte LCD with some desaturated modes for eye comfort.

for me, the major selling point of a true e-paper display is sunlight readability, if your "electronic paper" LCD cant match e-ink, then it's not good enough.

The main E-ink patents are due to expire in 2026, so we should see some rapid development after that.

Hate repost bots, if you want to use one as a back-er-up-er-er it should post to a dedicated community intended to be an archive, not the main communities for a topic, they are practically spam and don't promote any conversation in the comments as people avoid commenting on something that has zero connection to the original poster of the question.

It's a neat website, but it is very America specific.

For example, I'm Australian and I wasn't taught about slavery or genocide of our native people in high school. Hell, I was taught that the Stolen generation was a misnomer and children were only taken voluntarily or as an act of mercy... I graduated in 2008 so it wasn't exactly the dark ages. Referring to the planned exterminations of the natives as "battles" and "conflicts" at best was another one. they didn't even mention the shit that went down in Tasmania.

it's not just the dumb stuff like food pyramids and taste zones, even in schools today history is being glossed over

Decades of government backed protectionism paired with an ageing population will do that. people were widely propagandised into xenophobia and that sort of thing tends to stick in the psyche of the community for generations.

That said, the older generations are the ones still holding onto those views and they will be forced to change eventually.

You can still find signs on restaurants or shops across Asia that say "no tourists" or things like that, but they are becoming less common, even in rural areas. there is still the language barrier with the older generations, which is part of the reason those signs existed, but the majority of younger people across most of east Asia have some level of English from their mandatory school curriculums. They learn more western history, more western customs, exposed to more western media, western style homes are popular to those who can afford them (the Japanese housing market is it's own deep, deeeep topic), etc. etc. so those people naturally become more open and accepting of immigration

I expect to see japan keep crashing for another 10 years or so though sadly, and while Korea has been fairly stable they are rolling towards the same sort of downturn themselves.

China has been slowing economically for some years now for the same reasons, but their situation is a little different as their government will do whatever is necessary to protect their image, above their actual economy, so it is hard to know what is really happening there. For example, the whole giving gold to home buyers to avoid crashing the housing market thing.

putting prototypes straight into production is the "tech startup" way!

It may only be two atoms, but it's yet another tiny step in the right direction. It may still be generations before fusion is a scalable and reliable power source, but at this point I think we've proved it isn't impossible.
