You can't remove things from it, you cannot rearrange it... Useless things and suggestions get stuck at the top.

I'm on Android 13. Have they made any improvements in the newer versions of Android?

On Android, it's probably a little utility software called Quick Cursor (it's not FOSS). It's incredibly convenient being able to spawn a cursor on your phone from thin air that you can use to reach the "unreachable" portions of your screen, especially if you are holding your phone with one hand. Besides being a "phone touchpad" it has a bunch of ways of triggering actions/shortcuts, for example: volume or brightness control, launching an app (I use it for launching a floating calculator, notes...), opening notification shade, copying text (it can copy any text that is under the cursor, even if it's not selectable)...

It's not that I couldn't go without it, but it changed the way I use my phone and it would feel really weird without it. It feels like it should be a part of the OS.

Hurdy-gurdy

The hurdy-gurdy is a string instrument that produces sound by a hand-crank-turned, rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin (or nyckelharpa) bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to those of a violin. Melodies are played on a keyboard that presses tangents—small wedges, typically made of wood or metal—against one or more of the strings to change their pitch. Like most other acoustic stringed instruments, it has a sound board and hollow cavity to make the vibration of the strings audible.

There is no good way really.
Lemmy's search is pretty lackluster. You will have a hard time finding what you are looking for, unless you are searching for something verbatim, and if your query contains common words...Good luck. It also has no search operators.

When it comes to search engines, only google is somewhat usable (from my experience), but it's very much hit or miss. Sometimes you will be able to find the post, just by typing lemmy [post title or part of it], but it will almost never be in the top results.
And most of the time , first result is Reddit...

You can try using https://fedi-search.com

It basically just uses this query for "more accurate search" [search query] (intext:"modlog" & "instances" & "docs" & "code" & "join-lemmy")

And this one for normal search [search query] (site:lemmy.world OR site:lemmy.ml OR site:lemm.ee OR site:hexbear.net OR site:sh.itjust.works OR site:lemmy.dbzer0.com OR site:feddit.de OR site:kbin.social OR site:mastodon.social OR site:mastodon.cloud OR site:mstdn.social OR site:mastodon.online OR site:mastodon.world OR site:libre.video OR site:video.antopie.org)

Which is not just for lemmy, as you can see

Here is the search query I made for the top 35 lemmy instances (by active users) based on this: https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/list

[your search query] (site:lemmy.world OR site:lemm.ee OR site:sh.itjust.works OR site:lemmy.ml OR site:hexbear.net OR site:lemmy.ca OR site:programming.dev OR site:lemmy.dbzer0.com OR site:feddit.org OR site:lemmy.blahaj.zone OR site:discuss.tchncs.de OR site:lemmygrad.ml OR site:sopuli.xyz OR site:lemmy.sdf.org OR site:lemmy.zip OR site:beehaw.org OR site:infosec.pub OR site:aussie.zone OR site:feddit.nl OR site:midwest.social OR site:feddit.uk OR site:slrpnk.net OR site:reddthat.com OR site:lemmy.one OR site:jlai.lu OR site:pawb.social OR site:lemmy.kya.moe OR site:lemmy.today OR site:startrek.website OR site:feddit.it OR site:mander.xyz OR site:ttrpg.network OR site:lemmings.world OR site:ani.social OR site:feddit.org)

In SearXNG u can use !lepo to search lemmy posts but it's basically just lemmy's search.

I really hope there aren't people stupid enough to buy or even want that.

Yes, butt:

I also saw a video of a monkey peeling it from the stem side and then proceeding to clean it of all those stringy bits before finally eating it.

Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIc5kTth1lE

Nowadays, most people use password managers (hopefully). However, there are still some passwords that you need to memorize, like master password (for a password manager), phone lock, wifi password, etc.

Security wise, can passphrase reach the strength of a good password without getting so long that it defeats the purpose of even using it?

I've been using Dropbox to sync my KeePass database for years, but I want to switch to Syncthing. My only concern is losing a password due to file versioning. Usually if I have KeePass open on both my phone and PC, there will be a conflict when saving to database, so Dropbox creates a conflicted copy. In some cases that means that I have to merge those databases but I don't lose the password.

What file versioning option should I be using in Syncthing? Should I be worried about losing a password due to conflicted file?

Typing test: https://monkeytype.com
I used Unexpected Keyboard

Any tips on how to improve typing speed? (without using word suggestion and autocorrect)

I'm interested in how fast people who swipe type are.

Also, do those keyboards like Thumb Key and FlickBoard have the potential "to be faster" than the standard keyboards?

Moon is running on Quake engine.

[-] Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 8 months ago

I think this is what I saw. Not quite 20 pages/s hahah and also a different method.

[-] Wistful@discuss.tchncs.de 30 points 8 months ago

Wow that seems painfully slow/tedious. Why isn't it automatized? I think I saw a robot do like 20 pages a second on a yt some years ago.

I just learned about it yesterday. Seems like Vivaldi but on gecko, which I always wanted to see.
Unfortunately it seems like it's maintained by only one overworked dev. It needs more funding and more devs.

Take those graphs with a grain of salt. There are several websites that track activity and all of them show different results. I also assume that almost every lemmy update affects these graphs, since things did break quite a few times.

This is from the official lemmy site join-lemmy. It says 820 Servers, 41k Active users

spoiler

This is from fedidb (same site the screenshot from the post comes from). 923 Servers, 39,832 Active Users and 433,819 Total Users

spoiler

Then we have fediverse.observer. Based on that graph, monthly active users are growing. 845 Servers and 43,631 Active users and 1,944,442 Total Users

spoiler

And finally we have lemmyverse. Which uses the method to find the "sus" servers and users, so 863 Servers and 1,741,848 Actual Users

spoiler

To me personally it seems like the content is becoming more regular and better in quality overall. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It seems like I'm logged out every time I initially load a page, but if I refresh the page or open a link (within my instance) in a new tab, I'm logged in again...

I saw quite a few posts on this topic but I never found a solution...Is there some workaround for this?
