It is a dell its an Optiplex 3070 mini. You just boot windows into safe mode to change that right?

[-] BobGnarley@lemm.ee 5 points 6 hours ago

Honestly I may just keep doing the Debian install now that I have some insight on what might have gone wrong.

Its true really trying to break through the learning curve at the moment hands on but yes I think you might be right.

What am I doing wrong here? The computer has Windows 11 on it but I don't want to use it I want it all the way off the machine.

Can this installer not overwrite the Windows OS with Debian? Edit: Just want to say thanks to all of you I'm going to experiment around with the advice you all have given and see how it works out! Absolutely love the passion and helpfulness of this community here on Lemmy for real!

On Debian's website it is saying to write the image to the USB stick I should use a bash script "# cp Debian.iso /dev/sdX

sync"

Is there another way to do this without using root access?

So I've never actually used a machine with UEFI before I've always been on older machines with BIOS.

I got a Dell Optiplex 3070 Intel core 9500T (gen 9) 2.1 GHz 16GB ram 256gb SSD but it has windows 11 on it.

I hate Windows, and I don't want any trace of it left on my machine. I'd prefer Debian but would even take Ubuntu over Windows What is the best guide for this for someone who has never messed with UEFI before?

I'm wanting to run my own SimpleX chat server and set up a Monero node as well.

Can this be done on the same machine? I was considering getting a mini PC to do this so it wouldn't be too much of an issue with it being always on.

Or should I take a different approach and set up both separately on two different machines like a raspberry pi or something?

As I'm sure you can tell I don't have a lot of experience with self hosting anything but want to get into it to help strengthen the networks of these communities I care about.

Specifically for gaming and streaming in HD? Would I be able to share play games still as well or is that not happening even if I get the better Spitz router?

My electric company here in the us mines bitcoin with it and charges us a "peak time incentive" pricing model.

Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like to be born somewhere like Finland.

Lol. How much does it cost to have a child in the hospital in the USA again? Oh, $18,865 you say? Huh. What if they need an ambulance to get there? Oh, $500 to $3000 depending on distance you say? And you say also that US Bureau of Labor and Statistics is letting us know that in four short years our grocery prices have risen 22.04% and are expected to rise another 5.11% per year indefinitely? Meanwhile corporate profits increase every single year and minimum wage has been stagnant for decades? Someone should get them quick!!! I think I figured out why no one wants to have babies anymore! I would like to also comment on how obscenely expensive daycare is and how fucked up it is we have to put children in school 40 hours a week just so we can keep working more than half our lives away but I feel like anyone reading this gets the idea. They will be begging your ass to have babies in the next 100 to 200 years if we make it that long and I'll bet you all those obscene expenses will be an even greater cost to income ratio then, too. I mean if birthrates are a problem you have to ask yourself are they just fucking stupid or just fucking greedy?

And yet, not concerned enough to make the quality of life any better where people want to have children. Its like the greed is getting in the way of their ability to be more greedy in the future.

Is using the router and modem my cable company provided for my internet putting my privacy at risk? And if so, I have heard of openWRT routers but it seems like there's quite a bit of a learning curve with that but even if I got one would I need a non cable company branded modem as well? Any specifically that anyone here would recommend?

"Waaahhhh people are tracking me in my private jet" she is 100% being a dick. Fly in a regular ass plane like normal people do and problem solved

[-] BobGnarley@lemm.ee 94 points 8 months ago

Well here's a wild idea, why not ride on a normal god damn plane like 90% of every other person who flies. Boom, can't be traced by some kid then AND its better by a wide range for the environment. Nothing to see here but rich people problems lol

[-] BobGnarley@lemm.ee 37 points 9 months ago

About fucking time now the feds should do the other 49 states. But we all know that will never happen.

[-] BobGnarley@lemm.ee 41 points 9 months ago
