So I was checking my Proton Mail inbox, as I usually do, when I came across a hilarious email in my spam folder.

Increase Your Email Storage

I was very careful not to click on any links in the email.

I was not fooled even for a second. It was impossible for me to have run out of storage. You know why? Because I paid for a Proton Unlimited subscription a few months ago, and I have more than enough storage!

The fact that I got this email means someone got access to my email address, which makes it hard to narrow it down because I used to sign up for a LOT of services. I've started using Addy to create new aliases, but I really wish I had done that sooner, so I could see who sold me out.

Here's a lesson: always use an email alias, so that when/if this happens, you'll know who leaked your email address!

Throughout my life, I've always heard people refer to the early 21st century years as "two thousand and X". For example, they pronounced 2001 as "two thousand and one". In my experience, during the mid-2010s there seemed to be a shift in the way people said it, and the first time I heard someone say it differently was in 2016, where they pronounced it as "twenty sixteen".

Most people I've heard pronounced the late-2010s years as "two thousand and X", although the pronunciation "twenty X" had started to catch on fast. By the year 2020, almost nobody used the "two thousand and X" pronunciation, except for very old people I knew. For example, most people would pronounce 2024 as "twenty twenty-four" and not "two thousand and twenty-four".

My question is: what year is the cutoff date for pronouncing the early 21st century years as "two thousand and X?" I've always heard people say it that way prior to 2016, I've never heard someone pronounce, say, 2007 as "twenty oh seven".

I hope I was able to properly articulate what I'm trying to say.

I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason why we haven't done this yet. Too expensive? Would launching it into the sun cause the smoke (if there is even smoke in space) to find its way back to Earth, therefore polluting the air?

This is an incredibly stupid question.

They planned to get some dinner and have some beer after a hard day's work but needed to wash their very dirty hands first. So they went back into the bathroom and washed their hands. Well apparently that was too "gay" for the owner of the bar and they went over to the bathroom and started saying things like "I don't know what you think you're doing in there" and "I just need to make sure you're not doing anything funny".

Fellas, is it gay to practice basic personal hygiene?

A prequel anime feature is also currently in development, and it will finally show at least some of John’s storied “impossible task” that permitted him to retire for love.

"Right now, we’re knee-deep in development on a feature anime about John Wick. It’s a prequel to the movies, which is awesome. It’s fun that it’s in a different medium."

This is mostly me just typing into the void, but I noticed that my 1,000th post was coming up and decided to do something to commemorate it.

I first joined Lemmy in Janurary 2021, before the June 2023 craze. Lemmy was a much different place back then, practically a ghost town. Eventually, I only used Lemmy for a few months, then reluctantly went back to lurking Reddit.

Fast forward to June 2023, with Reddit announcing their new API changes. People were furious, and you all decided that the best course of action was to move to an open-source, federated Reddit alternative. You all chose wisely.

It took a while, but very soon, Lemmy became (mostly) what Reddit lost, and it's all thanks to you guys! A lot has happened in the past 14 months, with me starting my weekly "disc market share" reports on !homevideo@feddit.uk and me somehow becoming one of the co-moderators of !movies@lemm.ee. So many posts, cross-posts, so many comments, and upvotes.

And now, I've reached my 1,000th Lemmy post. I never imagined that Lemmy would grow to become the second-most popular ActivityPub service! Thanks to the Lemmy devs and all the contributors and users that make this possible!

Oh, the horror! (Not that we'll be seeing ads anyway.)
