So Microsoft is one of the most valuable companies in the entire world. They have a stranglehold on corporate America, power a huge the cloud infrastructure, hold one of the largest sources of telemetry/user data, and are the defacto standard of PC environments worldwide.

Why in the fuck do they need to pivot to ads? I’m genuinely curious. Even if they lost 50% of their entire business they would still be one of the most profitable companies in the world.

This is the best news. It’s one thing for AI to assist, it’s another to replace. Fuck em

That’s great to hear. It’s a nice little program suite for at home, and I hope one day it can compete against Google/Microsoft’s offerings

It seems like they would have been better off making subways not gonna lie.

I honestly don’t want to be federated with Threads or any social media giant. I really enjoy the organic discussion and lack of advertisements in fediverse compared to a strong amount of paint by numbers discourse/ads ads ads on the standard social media

Considering a big problem with conversion on Reddit is people just reacting to the headline I’d say it’s a win. I’ve noticed here when people do comment it’s more nuanced because they actually read the article.

It’s a valid point, but unfortunately your non bullshit options are limited to replacing the OS with something like Graphene or Lineage.

The powers that be REALLY want your data.

I gotta say that even though it’s not for me, I’m glad this device exists!

One way I was able to land a job was doing the old fashioned “speak to the hiring manager and shake his hand”. She said out of all the online applications (hundreds by the way every month) I was the first person to actually go up there and express interest. Still had to put in the online application, but a week later I interviewed and got the offer.

These businesses love to dehumanize the employee pool when they should realize it’s so easy these days for them to get in the exact same position.

The biggest problem I have with “smart tv”s is the fact that nearly ALL of them lag to some extent. Doesn’t matter if it’s a remote press, switching an input, even turning the thing off has some amount of delay.
