t should cost the same or more than domestic to hire H1B and an H1B employee should be able to have the same worker rights as domestic.

There should be a 50k tax per H1-B worker. That would cut out the bullshit ensure that only workers who actually have needed skills are hired, rather than using foreign labor to lower American wages. I'm pretty sure that companies would suddenly "realize" they don't really need very many foreign workers.

I think that simply making H1B visas easier to get will reduce the extent of the problem

Fuck that. They should be abolished completely. There are tons of Americans who can do those jobs. Businesses do not need to have government bailouts via the immigration system.

Most Americans don’t know but tech jobs pay between $200k-$1m

No, they do not. More like $50k-200k. But the rest of your comment is pretty much right.

So tbh it was indeed a flop imo

Not a flop at all. I used ACA for several years and was extremely glad to have it.

Before the ACA, I didn’t have medical coverage at ALL.

The health care insurance companies literally created a shared database of blacklist victims who they denied health care to. It was at mib.com, which is now a completely different site.

In retrospect I don’t believe for a second that he had any intention of doing much of anything. Just empty campaign lies.

We literally got everything Obama campaigned on in health care except the public option. This is what Obama promised you. If you say he promised something else, that's your lie, not his.

No one I know who voted for Obama had any serious expectation that we were getting Single Payer.

Because that was never his proposal.

We elected Obama with the hope for single payer healthcare and received Romney Care in a rebrand effort called the ACA.

Dude if you didn't read Obama's 2008 campaign proposal for health care reform that's on you. The only thing we didn't get was the public option, thanks to Joe Lieberman.

Democrats passed ACA

So they got healthcare for tens of millions of people. That's fantastic. I used it for awhile myself.

God our government is so fucking useless for anything that might actually help people.

More specifically: gop.gov

[-] btaf45@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

I’d move there if they had half the benefits they do in the PRC. Universal healthcare,

Taiwan has universal healthcare. China has a crappy employer based health care system.

Treason Trump ran to stay out of jail.

Nothing was "thrown at him". If you break the law, you bring down the law on you. The jury system insures that you can only be found guilty by a random 12 person panel of citizens. Why are you pretending that our 200+ year old jury system doesn't work? It worked for 200 years....
