New year, new thread.

7

Filipinos often have this idea that we suck at everything.

For example, when they see bad infrastructure design or mismanaged infra, they go: "OnLy In Da PeLePens". Except that awful infra is present everywhere else.

Here's one of an escalator in Georgia:

When they see litter, they say the exact same thing. Except that other countries litter too. In fact, here's one I found in Japan last week that was left by teenagers. When I got back the next morning it was still there. Why? Japan supposedly has subpar trash collection that's largely dependent on citizens bringing their trash home.

So, in this thread: Post anything you find that debunks this mindset.

Paalam, Lemmy! (lemmy.world)
submitted 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) by decadentrebel@lemmy.world to c/philippines@lemmy.world

As you can tell from the 1 visitor average per day for the last year (aka. me lol), this community is pretty much dead. No one is reading this as well, but in case you wander here while bored — I'm sticking a fork on Lemmy PH. No more monthly threads or news posts, at least from me.

It started out strong and was brimming with potential, but once r/PH reopened, 90% of the posters made a beeline back to the sub. The rest who decided to stick, slowly packed their bags as well. I don't appreciate being made a joke in Discord, but hey, such is life and the reality of protests.

Thanks for giving this community a shot! It was a fun first month or so! I'm focusing my attention to UndustFixation now, which has been keeping me busy outside of work, actually. Stay safe!

Edit: Shout out to u/gradenko_2000 who saw the protests as performative and took it a step further by not going back to Reddit at all and refusing repeated invites to Lemmy.

Lemmy seriously needs kindergarten-level SEO. None of the communities barely show up on Google.

All-Star brought attention to Mystery Men, which is a criminally underrated movie. So, that's another reason to like that song.

Does Lemmy count as social media?? lol

And to make matters worse, insist that no amount of modification would justify buying that cooler ever. It's literally covering your ears and muttering la-dee-da repeatedly.

Pretty cool, although if you have a Steam Deck, you can easily chuck them in there along with several other retro console titles. It was through SD I was finally able to play Rule of Rose and Haunting Ground since I missed out on them.

When are Lemmy posts going to show up on Google searches??

[-] decadentrebel@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago

I'm honestly not surprised. It's one of those rare movies that has mass appeal (which guarantees it at least half a billion) and also a surprisingly good story that had critics and audiences raving about it.

I was only forced to watch it because I didn't want to wait in the mall that long for Oppenheimer to start while the wife finishes Barbie. I haven't been more satisfied and entertained by a blind watch since... Burning.

"Alright, pussy, pussy, pussy! Come on in Pussy lovers!

Here at Lemmy we’re slashing pussy in half! Give us an offer on our vast selection of pussy, this is a pussy blow out! Alright, we got white pussy, black pussy, Spanish pussy, yellow pussy. We got hot pussy, cold pussy. We got wet pussy. We got smelly pussy. We got hairy pussy, bloody pussy. We got snapping pussy. We got silk pussy, velvet pussy, naugahyde pussy. We even got horse pussy, dog pussy, chicken pussy.

C'mon, you want pussy, come on in Pussy Lovers! If we don’t got it, you don't want it! Come on in Pussy lovers!"

It is. The Lemmy instance owners and the devs aren't even making a dime off the platform.

That said, the decision to pay is still ultimately up to the user. If you feel it's too pricey, then there's Liftoff, which is a perfectly fine app in itself. Others are okay with it or even better if regional pricing is launched.

Also: "removed by mod".

The beauty here, though, is you can easily cross-reference on the mod log what post was removed and why.

Makes it a lot easier for us former Reddit mods dealing with claims of persecution.

Exactly. I hate Reddit more than most people here (I'm a mod on a sub that has more than a million subscribers and felt disrespected by spez), but the fact of the matter is they're the gold standard of quality answers and discussions.

I would want Lemmy to get to that level, not immediately, but that's the dream.

It doesn't help that the thread URLs are some old school "post/4268567".

I also noticed that the markdown format is included (e.g. the hashmarks for headings, asterisks for bold/italics) in search results while every other site doesn't look like that.
