Ooh, I will be giving this a go!

It's the difference between an earned pejorative and an unearned one.

If you intentionally identify yourself as a member of a cult built on hatred, you deserve how people respond to that.

That's not the same thing as hurling insults at people for being gay, trans, black, latino, asian, women, asexual, or whatever other component of people's identity that they choose to hate next.

You're right, but what he really wants to sell is Tesla shares. The more the share price goes up, the richer he is, and Tesla's share price is based entirely on the notion that its the ground floor of a world where autonomous vehicles are everywhere.

Market cap wise, Tesla is sitting at something like ten to twenty times any other car manufacturer, at a fraction of their sales. It's the promise that a) they'll crack self driving any day now, and b) self driving will be a thing that everyone wants that keeps the Tesla share price as ridiculously inflated as it is. If people get wise that there is no rabbit in the hat, his fortune collapses.

I wonder if Elon is even aware that a big part of why the F-35 is so expensive is because it was designed to operate as a command and control node for fleets of combat drones, because it turns out you still need a human intelligence directing them.

His fantasy that autonomous kill-bots are all that matters in warfare is just something he got from the scifi novels he obsessively reads (while completely missing the point of every single one of them). We're not even remotely close to an "AI" that could be trusted with that kind of decision making.

Primaries. Plural. As in there are a whole bunch of them. Not just the one for president.

You don't start at the top. You get your candidates in from the bottom up, and then you go for the top jobs.

Look, you only have two options here; fix the party you have, or come up with a realistic plan for building a new one that can somehow be electorally viable. So unless you really think you can offer a clear and actionable path to the latter, you're stuck with the former.

The answer is that you vote in the primaries to shift the party left as far as you can, and then you vote in the general for whatever version of that party you end up with that time around. You don't sit on your ass in the expectation that they will come to you; you make them come to you.

It's not just experience, it's training. Ukraine's military was extensively retrained by Canadian advisors to get them up to our standards of tactics, strategy, and operational logistics. Russia is still stuck on old Soviet doctrine, and North Korea is still basically trying to fight WW2.

[-] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

They already do. There's an ongoing effort to smuggle outside news and media into North Korea. But you can't just "blast it through the DMZ". You have to get the stuff into formats they can play with appropriate subbing or dubbing where needed, and then sneak it across in USB thumb drives that are then quietly distributed by rebels in the north. It's a difficult and dangerous process.

If you enjoyed Control, I highly recommend Signalis. Similarly creepy, unsettling vibes from everything, lots of exploration and really tense combat, and a story that holds enough back to keep you wondering.

[-] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 24 points 2 days ago

Yeah, exactly.

It genuinely worries me that people struggle to see through bullshit this obvious.

I want to also note that this is something that actually happened in the show. There's a particular Pikachu (not Ash's) that shows up with a paper heart taped to their tail.

So, the show was already saying trans rights, this dumbass just didn't notice.

Kaliningrad

Also Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Canada (if you don't count the Arctic).

The idea that Ukraine joining NATO made any kind of difference to Russia's security is absolutely ludicrous.
