Idk about you but I oscillate between feeling like God's vice-regent on earth to feeling like an earthworm stranded on the sidewalk once the rain has stopped.

But when you're in one state, it's hard to remember what it felt like to be in the other one, even if it wasn't that long ago...

Unfortunately, I don't recon giving the universe empress a new name could stop it...

Oh, you just made me understand the joke. I thought the he thought he was gonna put the condom on the shiver and use it as a dildo, but makes more sense this way.

If you're wondering what narrative purpose this scene serves, you have to consider the whole series. It's a mirror of a scene in episode one where Shinji also stands on top of a female character with a bodily fluid on his hand, but for a whole other reason: Shinji was told to pilote a giant robot he'd never seen before to fight a giant monster. He refused. The injured girl was brought on a strainer and he was told if he didn't pilote the robot, she'd have to. The ground shook because of the robot, the girl (named Rei) fell from the strainer and Shinji rushed to see if she was okay. He looked at his hand and saw that he had her blood on it (obvious symbolism), then he accepts to pilote the robot.

That scene is what asserts Shinji as a protagonist. It's the first showing him doing something for someone else, and he's putting his life on the line to do so.

So mirroring this scene but having him do something cowardly and shameful, opposite of the bravery and kindness he showed in episode 1 makes him exit this role as a protagonist. And I don't even think it's necessary to understand it for it to work: For most of the movie after that, Shinji isn't the protagonist, you follow other characters as they conclude their respective narrative arcs and without the hospital scene, I think many would feel frustrated and wait for Shinji to do something. Instead, we're more prone to watch the other characters because we don't really want to see Shinji anymore.

Another thing is, there characters have all been through a lot and been repeatedly traumatised. Not that it's an excuse, but the series is also a bit original in the way it rejects the trope that hardship builds character and makes one better, without going in the reverse cliche of it making them a villain either. Trauma makes them mentally ill. Mental illness sometimes cause them to do bad things to other, which they then regret.

TL:DR : I just want xterm to not do anything special when I start typing ctrl+shift+u so I can write special character, so I must remove the ctrl+u default keybind.

I'm using xterm on a laptop (no discrete gpu and pretty bad integrated graphics, so gpu-accelerated ones like kitty are counterproductive, and I use i3 so an xorg based one sounds better). I also like using vim.

I'm also using a qwerty keyboard, but sometimes write in French and need accents. I've memorized the codes for those I often need, like ctrl+maj+u+e+9 for é, but it doesn't work in xterm because it executes the ctrl+u keybind (delete previous characters and then types "(" (because it's maj+9).

So, following online guides, I've created a .Xresource file with the following code:

XTerm.VT100.translations: #override \n\
   Ctrl <Key>U: none

And I also added the line

exec xrdb ~/.Xresources

But to no avail, even when restarting the x session or manualy running xrdb ~/.Xresources.

What am I doing wrong?

I know someone said more or less the same thing when it was posted on Tumblr, but if the schools realize most of their students don't know a thing they should know... Shouldn't they teach it?

I know we now know they went extinct 66 million years ago, and 64 millions is another date I've seen around, but how long how we known it was definitely way more than 40 millions ? I'm asking because it's the date given in the the song "walk the dinosaurs" by Was (Not Was), and I wondered why such a number. Would it have seed credible at the time, or was it just arbitrary?

It was so bad Ever on and on, I continue circling With nothing but my hate in a carousel of agony 'Til slowly I forget and my heart starts vanishing And suddenly I see that I can't break free I'm slipping through the cracks of a dark eternity With nothing but my pain and the paralyzing agony To tell me who I am, who I was, uncertainty Enveloping my mind 'til I can't break free and

Maybe it's a dream, maybe nothing else is real But it wouldn't mean a thing if I told you how I feel So I'm tired of all the pain, of the misery inside And I wish that I could live feeling nothing but the night You can tell me what to say, you can tell me where to go But I doubt that I would care, and my heart would never know If I make another move, there'll be no more turning back Because everything will change and it all will fade to black

If I understood right, you are under the impression that the original post is from an incel calling out someone for being enthusiastic about determinist philosophy; and wrongfully likening it to a fetish. A few bits of context seem to have eluded you:

  • The poster in the image has the lesbian flag on their profile pic. It may not be impossible for a lesbian to be an incel, but at the very least it takes Tumblr OP a bit further from suspicion.
  • The screenshot is from Tumblr. You wouldn't be blamed for not knowing this, but some Tumblr users have a way of posting that consists of simply describing a new and humorous character concept that they came up with. This could be related to the fanfiction community. It is not a description or a critique of an actual person, just Tumblr OP thinking "wouldn't it be funny if...".
  • Another thing with this very same Tumblr community is how common it is for them to talk and meme about kinks. Something Lemmy OP has picked on, judging by the title, is that the reason the fictional character is horny is that the absence of free will is similar to bondage or a similar form of erotic domination. This is the original joke.

A social network that was formed as a fork of lemmy, before lemmy had really entered the fediverse (tho they were planning to). Both Lemmy and Hexbear had communists among their founders, but the Hexbear devs found it more... Central to their objectives. When Lemmy federated, Hexbear didn't. It planned to initially, but ended up being pretty satisfied of being a small, yet centralized social network, basically a communist Reddit. But the idea of joining the Fediverse appeared tempting once again with the boom that happened on Mastodon when the muskrat ate the bird, and to a greater extent when Reddit changed their API policy and lost a lot of the user's trust, causing many redditors to move to Lemmy.

Hexbear devs then worked to essentially make it a Lemmy instance, but there were always disagreements about who to federate with. They first federated with Lemmygrad and Lemmy .ml. Lemmy .world quickly blocked them. They temporarily federated with sh .itjust .works, but this wasn't well received on either side, so this was soon undone.

Ideology wise, pretty much everyone on Hexbear is some kind of communist. However, altho the "tankie", pro-russia type is often seen, it's not that homogeneous (there are even anarchist channels over there), arguably less than lemmygrad.
