‼️ "Notes of Private Jong." Part 2: "Using Live Bait"

In the notebook of a North Korean special forces operative neutralized in the Kursk region, he detailed a method for luring Ukrainian drones using live bait.

Before his encounter with Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SOF) operators, Private Gyeong Hong Jong outlined tactics for downing UAVs and evading Ukrainian artillery in his notebook.

It is unclear whether this strategy originates from authentic North Korean military doctrine or was taught to them by Russians. However, the tactic relies on using live bait.

Here is the full transcription of another entry from the captured notebook, secured in the Kursk region by SOF operators. The entry is accompanied by illustrations drawn by the North Korean SOF soldier:

"How to neutralize a drone."

Upon spotting a drone, form a trio (3 people). The person baiting the drone maintains a distance of 7 meters, while the shooters position themselves 10-12 meters away.

If the bait person remains stationary, the drone will also stop its movement. At this moment, the shooter should eliminate the drone.

"How to avoid artillery fire."

If caught in an artillery strike zone, designate a regrouping point for the team, then scatter into small groups and exit the strike zone.

Another method: since artillery rarely hits the same location twice, hide in a previously targeted spot before moving out of the strike zone.

The Ukrainian SOF continues to eliminate North Korean special forces operatives in Russia's Kursk region.

While we continue to decode the captured notes of Private Jong, you can read the first part of his notebook here. Stay tuned for more.

🍁 Cheka-OGPU: The Baku-Grozny airliner was hit over the Naursky district of Chechnya, where several military units with air defense systems are located. According to the transcript of the conversations between the controller and the crew, the pilot mistook the strong blow to the plane for a collision with a flock of birds.

In fact, the damage indicates that a missile fired by air defenses exploded near the plane. The same impact occurred at an altitude of 2,400 meters.

According to open sources, several military units are located in this area, including those with air defense systems. Back in late 2011, the Chechnya Today website published a laudatory article about new weapons capable of controlling the airspace of the entire North Caucasus. The article states that the motorized rifle brigade of the Russian Ministry of Defense stationed in the Naursky district had a new air defense control system at that time, Barnaul-T. It is known that after the recent UAV attacks, several Pantsirs were also deployed in Chechnya.

❗️ Let me remind you that the President of Azerbaijan, Aliyev, has already turned the plane he was flying to the summit with Putin around Moscow and returned home. He must have been upset. However, he should have been upset when Putin started this war. And what happened is just its consequences.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday denounced an "inhumane" attack from Russia, which launched over 170 missiles and drones on his war-torn country's power grid on Christmas Day, killing one and causing widespread blackouts.

"Putin deliberately chose Christmas to attack. What could be more inhumane? More than 70 missiles, including ballistic missiles, and more than a hundred attack drones. The target is our energy system," Zelensky said.

Engineers were working to repair the system, as regional officials reported power cuts. "Christmas morning has once again shown that nothing is sacred for the aggressor country," said Svitlana Onyshchuk, the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk region. She said part of the region was without electricity "at a time when we celebrate one of the greatest religious holidays -- the bright Christmas."

This is a much more detailed look at the sinking of the Ursa Major, including how the vessel sunk and what it was doing at the time of the sinking.

An explosion in the engine room apparently, and she sunk stern first, indicating there was a lot of water coming into that area of the ship.

A senior Russian official reiterated Russian President Vladimir Putin's insistence that negotiations with Ukraine must be based on the same uncompromising demands he made before the full-scale invasion and at the moment of Russia's greatest territorial gains, despite the fact that Ukraine has liberated a significant amount of territory since then. Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko stated on December 24 that Russia is open to compromise in negotiations with Ukraine, but that Russia will strictly adhere to the conditions that it laid out during negotiations in Istanbul in March 2022, when Russian troops were advancing on Kyiv and throughout eastern and southern Ukraine.[1] Matviyenko added that Russia would not deviate from these conditions by "one iota."[2] The partial agreement that emerged during the Ukraine-Russia negotiations in Istanbul in March 2022 stated that Ukraine would be a permanently neutral state that could not join NATO, and imposed limitations on the Ukrainian military similar to those imposed by the Treaty of Versailles on Germany after World War I, restricting Ukraine's Armed Forces to 85,000 soldiers.[3] Russia's demands at Istanbul were mainly more detailed versions of the demands that Putin made in the months before he launched the full-scale invasion in February 2022, including Ukraine's "demilitarization" and neutrality.[4] Matviyenko is reiterating Putin's demand from his annual Direct Line televised press conference on December 19, and more senior Russian officials are likely to make similar claims to domestic and foreign audiences in coming weeks.[5] ISW continues to assess that senior Russian officials' references to conditions Putin attempted to impose on Ukraine when he believed his full-scale invasion could succeed in a few days in 2022 reflects his projected confidence that he can completely defeat Ukraine militarily despite the tremendous setbacks Ukraine has inflicted on Russian forces since then.

Summary

Ukraine is struggling to reverse a severe population decline worsened by Russia’s invasion, with 6-10 million citizens still abroad.

To address this, the government created the Ministry of National Unity, prioritizing repatriation as part of a resilience plan.

However, security concerns, economic instability, and lack of services deter returns.

Ukraine faces an urgent labor shortage for post-war recovery, needing millions of workers by 2032, as prolonged displacement reduces the likelihood of return.

When discussing Soviet space history we mostly talk about the R-7 (Sputnik, Vostok, Molniya, Soyuz) and Proton rockets, but there were a bunch of other rockets developed primarily in what is now Ukraine, many of these were derived from ballistic missiles.

And because many important Soviet ballistic missiles - the R-12, R-14, R16 & R36 were developed at OKB-586 in Dnipro these ended up in Ukraine after the break up of the USSR
