Thats one of the hypothesis, it also could be a matter of using one thing for a secondary purpose that wasnt originally intended. I have opened a can with a nail puller on a hammer, dont think that was even a considered feature.

Interesting. I know those things for making 3D knitted tube-strings but those have only one (2D) plane of prongs and a single hole. Wonder if this could be used to knit ~~4D~~ strings? (e: considering again, WTF! -- It has 12 planes! So now i wonder if the interior space is really as "finite" as it appears...)

Easy. Twelve men gather 'round and insert their penises (or penii back then) and try to make them meet in the middle. Whomever has the shortest penis that does not gingerly meet the others, draws the equivalent of the short straw, and performs whatever unfavorable task the men fetched the ol' dodecahedron in order to determine in the first place. This game was of course unfair, as the man with the largest penis was always the first to suggest the dodecahedron, and the men with the smallest penii were practically serfs among their respective groups of friends.

Everybody knows that all ancient artefacts are always for ceremonial purposes, all the time. Ancient peoples ate nothing but ceremonies.

I like how everything has to have some purpose.

It's entirely possible that this was a useless decoration or something.

Looks shocked 21st century people still fail to understand it's purpose while every kid knew at its time of creation

It's reasonable to find a YouTube video of a couple making a mood color changing toilet seat, but the idea of an ancient maker fabricating some thing just because they can is straight up unthinkable.

[-] mustbe3to20signs@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

It's not unimaginable but you need to take in account that the YouTube couple has plethora of free time compared to people in societies with less division of work, infrastucture, home appliances and last but not least access to ressources.
Also the mood toilet seat generates clicks and attention which are perhaps the main motivation behind such a nonsense project.
But maybe you're right and I'm just to negative.
