Watch how quickly the platform known for its “fReEdUm oF sPeEcH” bans any and all posts by Biden’s campaign.

[-] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This goes all the way back to the_donald. To them, censorship does not exist if you scream "free speach" as loud as possible.

[-] fordlincolnhg@lemmy.world 120 points 1 year ago

Dark Brandon’s about to drop some truths.

[-] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago

Hope he post videos doing pushups shirtless.

Remember when Donnie shared his physician's report that said he was a man whose "physical strength and stamina are extraordinary"?

https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/05/02/607638733/doctor-trump-dictated-letter-attesting-to-his-extraordinary-health

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 year ago

Extraordinarily bad probably. Still extraordinary.

[-] HughJanus@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

If you knew nothing about Donald Trump, blatantly lying about your physical fitness to this extent should be damning. If he's willing to just straight up lie about his health or about his golf game, what wouldn't he lie about?

[-] TMPinSYR@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Exactly. Leaving aside the moral question... Why lie about something so trivial? So he's dishonest and foolish?

[-] PoliticalAgitator@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

That's not even the most ridiculous claim about his health that his supporters obediently swallowed. Ronny "Candyman" Jackson said that if he watched his diet, he could live to be 200.

To be honest, physical virility isn't that important to me.

The only reason that aspect matters to me re:trump is that he claims to be healthy and of certain dimensions, but clearly isn't.

No matter what your physical self is, as long as you don't pretend to be fuckin superman, you can have my vote if I can get on board with your policies.

I love that their first posts are just highlight reels of Trump saying dumb shit and other Republicans absolutely trashing him.

[-] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 61 points 1 year ago

Literally endorsing the opposition’s propaganda platform is bold as it gets now I guess

[-] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 68 points 1 year ago

They'll be banned within the next week.

[-] RaincoatsGeorge@lemmy.zip 82 points 1 year ago

Which is exactly what they want. If they can get trump to ban them they’ll easily show that they are a bunch of snowflakes who are full of shit when they talk about free speech.

[-] squiblet@kbin.social 65 points 1 year ago

Conservatives don't mind being blatantly hypocritical, though. They'd support it with some rationalization. Just look at their subs on reddit, for example... constant whining about being 'censored' when they're downvoted on other subs, but their subs would be 'flaired users only' and when people dared to disagree with whatever BS in other posts, very swiftly permanently banned.

[-] jkmooney@kbin.social 10 points 1 year ago

They are, indeed, irony immune....

Honestly I think it's fine, smart, and like they said, a little bit funny.

If some portion of Trump's audience is on Truth Social, it makes a reasonable amount of sense to go there with targeted messaging for them. Posting clips of Republicans complimenting Biden or criticizing Trump is a good way to stir up a bit of division amongst Republicans, and it shows that the Democrats aren't afraid of Trump's echo chamber.

On the plus side, it won't be long before they get banned for trashing Trump, and that'll only show what completely spineless bitch asses the far right are.

[-] kava@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

I doubt Biden will get banned. It'd be much better to just shadowban or at least limit the amount of exposure. You accomplish the same thing without looking like you are censoring.

Banning will give lots of Republicans cognitive dissonance since this platform and other right wing platforms that are slowly being legitimized like Rumble heavily use free speech in their marketing.

Easy to ban and ignore regular people, but banning a president will inevitably end up on the news. Maybe Trump will decide that the media exposure will be good anyways, though. Any PR is good PR has essentially been Trump's main strategy since 2015.

[-] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 year ago

I don't think this is endorsing. Are they telling people to use it?

[-] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

You’re right it’s not literally endorsing, but it’s going to undeniably bring more traffic for better or worse

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 17 points 1 year ago

I doubt it. Liberals aren't joining that cesspool just because Biden's trolling there, and the conservatives aren't gonna join up because of Biden.

Yeah, and what happens when the doors to their echo chamber are opened? Will they get pissed that there's people that don't think like them and leave? I dunno, but it should be entertaining.

[-] Seasoned_Greetings@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

About as good of a endorsement as taking the stage at a Trump rally and laughing into the mic indefinitely while they boo. That is to say, it makes a fun story but it's not exactly a endorsement.

Couple of hours ago I saw video on yt with title "Biden joins Truth Social. THEY ARE DESPERATE" I didn't watch the video so idk what was acually said. Some years ago I watched conservative content. Even though I dont watch it at all anymore I still sometimes get shit like this in my homepage.

[-] Sacha@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Yup, I watched part of a Tim Cast (never heard of him before the yt recommendation, nor consumed any similar content previously) video, a lot of it was unhinged and I clicked out quickly with the ramping hatred intensity and rage baiting.

It took like a year for yt to stop recommending me similar far alt-right bullshit because I watched maybe five or ten minutes of a Tim Cast video

[-] PoliticalAgitator@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago

You don't have to click on a far-right video. You can also get them when you click on a progressive video, or a medical video, or a gaming video.

When Amazon first introduced their "People who liked X also liked Y" feature, it was hilariously easy to manipulate. You could just spam links back and forth and within a few minutes, "People who liked The King James Bible also like A Hand in the Bush: The Lost Art of Vaginal Fisting".

It didn't take too long for them to put a stop to it but decades later, are we actually sure content suggestion algorithms are any better at withstanding manipulation?

The far-right aren't exactly good people so I doubt they're saying "Sure, I openly celebrate mass shooters that target minorities but I draw the line at using sleazy techniques manipulate content suggestions".

I have a similar problem from watching firearm content on YouTube. YouTube just assumes I love right wing media because I'm interested in guns.

[-] TMPinSYR@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

Lol does this mean it's okay to join the platform ironically? Because I am ready for the trolling!

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 56 points 1 year ago

Don't. It still gives them active users. One account is fine. If we all start doing it then they get to show actual growth. Investors don't care if it's ironic.

Could potentially extend the life of this shit platform.

[-] dangblingus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

It doesn't matter. Nothing matters. It's social media. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that any of it means a damn. It's not real.

Could also potentially shorten it.
