Jesus, yeah I don’t think there’s ever a reason where that could be construed as anywhere near okay. Hopefully the neighbors know that the (logical) rest of country is in their corner.

It's not the 1950's anymore. You can't get away with this shit even in South Carolina. Dumbasses.

[-] money_loo@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Actually SC is one of only two states without hate crime laws, which is probably why the feds had to step up.

So they likely did think they could get away with this shit.

[-] Pratai@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Oh they’ll get away with it.

"Now, see, the issue is you did it in your yard. That's incorrect." - The FBI Probably.

[-] neutronst4r@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

Sure they burned their own Yard, but you don't see an issue with people burning things to promote racist ideology?

Did you read my entire comment before posting this?

Pal, I don't know what to tell you. Your post seems to imply the FBI is prosecuting a petty crime, and that is... incorrect.

[-] spudwart@spudwart.com 2 points 1 year ago

The joke is that the FBI is correcting him on how to be properly racist and intimidating. Because, ya know. The FBI has a history of enabling behavior like that.

They should be jailed for terrorism.

[-] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

No, but they could probably be charged with hate crime.

Terrorists do shit like this to people who look just like them, don't look like them, don't even know what they look like. They do shit like this to get their way.

These are terrorists. Hiding behind the respectability of some imaginary sky fairy giving them the magical right to inflict their views and opinions and actions on anyone and everyone else.

Not as bad as blowing up a bus full of children or beating to death a cop on the steps of the capital building, granted, but if it's intended to instill terror in someone then guess what that's called? Yep. That's terrorism. And an organization that uses terrorist methods to achieve it's end? Guess what that's called? Yep again! Those are terrorists. And the whole "white is right" bullshit that's been killing and scaring black folks for hundreds of years? Those are terrorists. No matter if they're southern baptist, kkk, prod "boys", or any other brand of right wing fascist walking talking fuckstick - they're committing terrorism against American citizens who have every right to enjoy America under the same laws these shit ladles seem to think they're in charge of.

Put it this way - have you ever gone next door and blown up your neighbor's house because you didn't like them? No? Then you're NOT a terrorist!

See how that works?

Here's the definition of terrorism (not US law, but I'm guessing it's similar):

terrorism, the calculated use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective.

This doesn't appear to match that definition, this just seems to target one neighbor, so it's a hate crime.

I don't see any political ends here, nor do I see a broad climate of fear. It could be terrorism if they were part of a larger group that did this all at the same time, but I see no evidence of that.
