News just in! People like games that are fun and don't try to fucking rob you at every opportunity.

Shocking

It also looks like $40 and under is the sweet spot for fun word of mouth games to take off at an exponential rate.

TIL Helldivers 1 was a top down shooter. Not from the article, I was just curious.

[-] all-knight-party@kbin.run 10 points 9 months ago

Helldivers 2 is arrowhead's first foray into a game that's not top-down, which makes it more impressive. It also allows Helldivers 1 to remain unique and enjoyable on its own, because the two play quite differently, and I still really love the first one

i would be very down to play an fps magicka extraction game.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

I mean there was Dark & Darker

Who knows if that's gonna get put back on steam at some point.

[-] Daxtron2@startrek.website 1 points 9 months ago

Very different in tone and mechanics though. Need light hearted Norse satire with a crazy combinatorial magic system.

[-] all-knight-party@kbin.run 1 points 9 months ago

Ohh baby, I can only dream.

[-] StraySojourner@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

I love 2 and still have 1 wishlist, are they still doing stuff with 1? Is it worth getting?

[-] all-knight-party@kbin.run 3 points 9 months ago

1 is done, but it's had more time to receive updates, so it has plenty of things to unlock and use. Arrowhead basically took what they could of Helldivers and translated it to 3D as best as they could, sort of like Risk of Rain 1 to 2, so some knowledge and all stratagem inputs will be similar.

As long as you're cool with top down shooters I think it's still great

[-] Daxtron2@startrek.website 1 points 9 months ago

They also made Magicka which was a very fun and funny game back in the day!

[-] MinisterOSW@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Really? Makes sense. Someone on that team must love teamkilling.

8 million people with a kernel level rootkit on their machines. WCGW?

[-] LemmyRefugee@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

I’m out of the loop about that. What is wrong with the game?

[-] ViviWaltz@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Kernel level Anti-Cheat has access to all the hardware and software on the computer. So if the Anti-Cheat is ever compromised through a vulnerability, then those hackers would have complete control over your system.

PSA: There is currently an RCE exploit being abused in @PlayApex. It is unsure whether it comes from the game or the actual anti-cheat (@TeddyEAC). I would advise against playing any games protected by EAC or any EA titles once they have fixed this or can comment. Currently, the RCE is being abused to inject cheats into streamers machines, which means they have the capabilities to do whatever, like installing ransomware software locking up your entire PC.

Nearly every major anti cheat implementation is ring-0 access. If you have any game with EasyAntiCheat or BattlEye installed, you've also got one. This is of course not to say they aren't a worrying thing, but they aren't abnormal and HD2 certainly isn't the only one to use it.

Should add Destiny 2 to that list.

[-] aphonefriend@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago

Ya, that's indeed a list of games to avoid if you care about security.
