Sickening how quickly a convicted rapist can appeal and get a new trial. And many thousands are imprisoned for longer sentences, for significantly minor crimes
The justice system is extraordinarily lenient if you're rich and can afford good lawyers.
Trump would probably already have beaten the rap if he could afford, or at least would pay for, good counsel.

He does not walk free. He’s also been convicted of rape and other charges in California, which the judge ruled his time served in NY wouldn’t affect. So he goes to California prison.

The appeals court ruled that he gets a new trial in New York. That will take a while, and cost a lot, but he’s not getting away scott free (yet).
In all, this is yet another symbol of the multi-tiered system of justice that the rich and powerful face vs the rest of us. We all get as many shots at freedom as we can afford - and the rich can afford a lot more than most.
The power of our justice system can be measured by how resilient it is at withstanding a perpetual assault by a well funded criminal.
His lawyers are challenging the LA conviction the same way.

Talk from the DA of retrying him but would that be double jeopardy?
The court ordered a new trial when it overturned the conviction. The DA can decide not to do a new trial if they want. Overturning a conviction is not necessarily the same as finding someone innocent.
