The former sheriff’s deputy charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman killed inside her Illinois home, had been employed by a half-dozen police agencies since 2020, according to state law enforcement records.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board shows Grayson was hired part time on Aug. 11, 2020, by the Pawnee Police Department. He also was hired part time on Feb. 4, 2021, by the Kincaid Police Department and on May 20, 2021, by the Virden Police Department.

Two months later, he was hired full time by the Auburn Police Department and remained there until May 1, 2022, when he was hired full time by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office. Grayson left Logan County on April 28, 2023, and was hired full time on May 1, 2023, by the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.

He received his part-time Law Enforcement Certification on June 5, 2021, according to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. His certification status currently reads as suspended on the board’s website.

Holy shit. I forgot that they were gonna release the bodycam footage and only just watched it. The way he pulled his gun and threatened her from across a large space. There was no real risk of that water reaching him in a meaningful way. Yeah, he coulda been splashed a bit, but not to the head or face. And if he meaningfully thought she intended to threaten physical harm then he has no ability to read a situation. She said some weird shit, but to go directly to "I'll shoot you in the face" is zero to maximum with no attempt to understand why she said it.

When they charge the pig before the body-cam is released, you know it's indefensible.

There's gotta be a better way to say that. Can't just go around using slurs like c*ps.

But seriously we can do better than that phrase I think.

Feral cops?
Transient cops?

Well yes, but it doesn't differentiate between the bastards that stay in one place, and the ones that roam from station to station because even the other bastards can't stand em.

[-] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

I just simplify it from ACAB because it doesn't matter if they roam a lot or not at all ... they're all bastards.

Unkeepables maybe, or just undesirable officers. So bad they gotta ship you off where no one knows who you are.

Angry little pigs that destroy anything they come across and kill whatever stands in their way, regardless of threat and is very difficult to get rid of?

Yeah, seems about right.

I get where you’re coming from, but since the phenomenon is almost exclusively an American problem, and America doesn’t really have the same sort of prejudice against the Roma as many in Europe do, it’s harder to see it as a slur. I suppose Nomad Cops could work 🤷‍♂️

"Won't stop cop"?

[-] LesserAbe@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Transient cop. Migratory cop.

I can't deal with this. It has to stop.

I just watched the footage and once again I'm blown away by the callous disregard for life. What the AF is wrong with people! 🤬

At this point, I think cops simply need to be disarmed. Period. Very few specialized cops should be armed in special circumstances. Outside that, cops need to just rely on their f-cking "de-escalation" skills alone. If they're scared, then they can call it in and get support. No more f-cking drawing weapons against unarmed civilians though. We can revisit this if and when too many cops are dying from all the many scary things they constantly need to draw their weapons for. We will then address their concerns with the same level of effort that civilian deaths are being accounted for.

The end.

Take the f-cking guns away!

Okay. Now the end.

🤬

The body cam footage is conclusive. The officer murdered that woman.

She said, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus." This caused the officer to become enraged, he told her he would shoot her in her fucking face, and then he did just that.

He claims he felt threatened because she was holding the handles of a pot of boiling water that was set on the counter next to her sink, but he moved closer to her before he shot her. If he felt threatened, why would he move closer to the threat? Also, as soon as the officers drew their weapons and pointed them at her, she let go of the pot and dropped to the floor. While the woman was on the floor, the officers continued to point their guns at her and tell her to drop the pot, even though at that point she was no longer touching the pot. The woman tries to stand up and grab the pot again, I think because she was trying to comply with the officers' imbecilic commands to drop a pot she wasn't even holding, and that's when the one officer shot her in the head.

At one point in the video the officer walks out of the house into the front yard where there are several other officers that had by then arrived on the scene, and the looks on their faces say it all. They knew they were looking at a man who hadn't just fucked up, but had committed a violent, criminal act. They knew he was totally fucked.

Repeal the Police Officer Bill of Rights that most states have and charge them with crimes for assault, harassment, oppression, and murder as necessary them ban them from police work. That's what happens to other professions like teaching, fire fighting and nursing
