Bugger. Smashed one of my favourite mugs when it slipped off the edge of the bedside table ๐Ÿ˜ญ.
Fortunately Amazon has it - with a bonus spoon at that - so I can replace it.

It sounds like you are fully prepped for both the gratitude and anti-gratitude threads today.

Gibson's way nicer to me these last few days. I'll take what I can get lol

Got the lunch notes done early as tonight's Harry Potter chapters are quite long.

Today is day 300 of learning Spanish! Bloody hell. I lost motivation really hard around day 150 so a lot of days I've just been redoing lessons from previous stages which are super easy. There are still periods of a few days where I am super motivated and try to push through and keep advancing, but they're not the majority.

I've been trying to think about how I'd say certain things in Spanish, or imagining being In Spain or south America and needing to speak Spanish. Most of the ways to express myself are probably improper, but Spanish seems to be considerably less complicated than English in its grammar rules. I love that for a lot (maybe most?) questions, you just make a statement, but then raise your tone slightly at the end and then it's a question.

I've also been watching a lot of South/Latin American travel content, and although I don't understand very much (and it seems most people there talk at about 500 words per minute), there's a few times when I hear a word and I'm all "OH MY GOD I KNOW WHAT HE SAID! I KNOW WHAT HE SAID!!!"

I'm currently in section 2 - unit 5. There are 26 units in section 2, and 8 sections in total. Although I think the later sections are longer (section 1 is 8 units, section 2 is 26, presumably the rest are the same length or longer)

I know that I want to keep my streak until the 365 day mark, but I'm not sure if I will once I cross that, or if I'll let it expire

Gratitude thread - I should've asked from the beginning, do we like this idea still?

First Sunday sleep in in a long time

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago

I think it's lovely. It gets conversations going.

[-] Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Sleep like $4!t while travelling, but so so so grateful for my ability to (travel). Iโ€™ve always ruminated about what soul goes into what body when weโ€™re bornโ€”existential fluffโ€”I could have been anyone, anywhere. Bettter, worse, the sameโ€ฆ

And I was typing this, this was the coffee I gotโ€ฆ

Rough Guys Coffee, Singapore

Definitely quite a few bad times, but overall, even when itโ€™s rough, Iโ€™ve still been incredibly blessed.

We do.
Gratitude - the cats were very warm, even if they were the indirect cause of the mug smash.
I found what I thought was the mug with a matching spoon on Amazon but didn't buy it there and then because my credit card had expired since I last used them. And when I went back and checked it wasn't exactly the same one (or as close as).
I found the matching mug with a spoon on eBay for two thirds the price so I grabbed it.
Despite the forecast it's a lovely sunny day.
My aunt and cousin (who also haven't seen the place) called earlier "what are you doing today?" So they're coming down to see me, the new place and of course the cats. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I often tell Tommy Cat that he's very good at jumping, because everyone likes a bit of positive feedback. But tonight I've had to admit to him that both Simone Biles (and the other gymnasts) and the Equestrian horsies are probably better jumpers than him.

He might need to stick to the Olympic events of Napping and Being Fluffy.

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

Tommy gonna prove you wrong at 3am.

Well. I typed something into my search bar and an instagram link of this girl who my ex is friends with popped up, didn't do a good job at deleting it, and before I know it, I see that my ex has launched a music duo with the girl he told me not to worry about. Are they dating? Probably. The way he looks at her. The way they look at each other.

I feel exactly how I did right after we broke up, and I thought I'd come far. I feel so fucking stupid.

I have to cook lunch and do uni shit, but I feel guttered. At least this will help me move forward.

[-] Duenan@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

Diving down into the rabbit hole wonโ€™t do you any favours.

I donโ€™t know how you can move on from this but just that you felt a lot more strongly about him than how he felt about you.

I know you wanted to be happy but it doesnโ€™t have to be with someone who wasnโ€™t into you, it wouldnโ€™t be worth it.

A photo/movie is one instant snapshot of a moment. Thatโ€™s all it is and you donโ€™t need to add more into the narrative of it to make yourself feel bad about it.

You do have to accept that he wasnโ€™t the one but thereโ€™s plenty of others out there who would be a better match for you. Itโ€™ll take time so go slowly.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

don't type "something" into search bars

also, if you loved him be happy he is happy

now it's your turn to be happy ๐Ÿ˜Š hugs

We're doing a sleep school for a week starting tomorrow. I hope we can get something out of it as the boys do have some trouble going to sleep and a lot of regular sleep settling advice doesn't work because you can't let a kid cry it out whilst there's another kid asleep in the same room.

At best it might feel a little like a working holiday as all meals are provided. It would be nice to spend a week where we don't have to worry about as many things for once.

[-] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago

Body clock, please do me s favour and let me sleep?

[-] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago

Legs are feeling it today from going up and down ladders all w/e. Ladders hit different to stairs. I thought they'd be alright but thankfully it brings us to a rave choon, silly Legs

Also just got some hail inner east which I haven't seen in a while.

i am here to sing the praises of icare toilet paper

it does not break

[-] Eagle@aussie.zone 5 points 2 months ago

We've been using their paper towel, and I'm a fan. It has half sheet perforations and it doesn't fall apart but it doesn't cost a bomb either.

I have a new plan for my German plate - Pfeffurnusse biscuits. Looks like they have a similar flavour profile to the suggested Spekulatius, but are a bit thicker and either iced or dusted with icing sugar instead of having a fancy press/roller to make them look pretty.

I bought a temperature sensor for my room because I was curious about how cold it actually gets, and how fast it loses heat, and it's actually not as bad as I thought it was. Doesn't seem to go below about 12 or so, although I think that's mostly down to body heat, the electric blanket, and my computer all slightly warming the room. But then again, my bathroom remains quite stable at around 15 regardless, so maybe there is an itty bit of insulation somewhere

If anybody's wondering why I don't run the ducted heating constantly, it's because of this:

The temperature sensor is in the hallway, which doesn't have a heating vent, so once you turn it on, it will pretty much run until summer, turning my room particularly for some reason into a mini marble bar (localised entirely within my bedroom! No you may not see it.), and they absolutely refuse to install either a temperature sensor into a bedroom, or a heating vent into the hallway.

Bonus: the temperature sensor in the bathroom (no heating vent + a giant skylight):

Tonight feels really fucking nippy though, even with the heater on, the electric blanket on full boar, and a temperature reading of 20ยฐ. It feels like -1 outside, according to the BOM boys, so I guess that's justified

[-] just_kitten@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago

Okay, today was not too bad, still didn't go outside but got some work done in the hopes I can take half of tomorrow off to do what I meant to do today (laundromat runs, shop for work shirts, uni admin). Did a bit of meal prep.

Please, please, please let there be no violent sleep-disruptive coughing tonight.

If youโ€™re not watching the olympics worth chucking on in the background. Not a MASSIVE sports guy but itโ€™s interesting as fuck! Also weโ€™re beating America in the medal tally, and we didnโ€™t even get our own boat for the opening ceremony!
