Trump fatigue is real.

The only news I want to hear about him is how much he lost by and how long his prison sentence will be.

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

I don't even want him in jail anymore if it means having to deal with him through the trials. I'm utterly done with him.

Just cut a plea deal giving him house arrest with no visitors or internet and let him live in his golden palace until he dies on the toilet.

[-] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

Nah, I want justice. He needs to be made an example of for the next authoritarian dickhead who thinks about fucking with democracy.

[-] Asafum@feddit.nl 38 points 1 day ago

I'm generally a pessimist, but I really honestly think he's going to win even without the ratfuck plans they have for the swing states...

Polls always show him well under what his actual support is and we're close enough that it should put him in a decent lead...

I do still expect a state like Georgia to "find irregularities" on election night that will trigger the hand counting which will drag out long enough for them to have SCOTUS step in and tell them to stop counting again regardless...

:(

There's always a chance and he will be ratfucking everything he can, but this is a very different base than in 2016. The crowds aren't there. My family hasn't been annoying, as much. I heard one say to his friend (at a family thing) "I just try not to think about it and only focus on what I can...blah...family." he was talking about some bs repub lie of the day to his friend. I know it's not a poll, but a lack of excitement from trumpers is a positive sign.

Still go vote. It's not a 100% thing and Trump will be flinging more lies around.

[-] Sc00ter@lemm.ee 21 points 1 day ago

But im guessing your family member will still vote for him. It doesn't matter how enthusiastically he casts the ballot, a votes a vote

[-] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 16 points 1 day ago

They still will, yes. I was just speaking generally if the motivation to vote is low then some people will skip it. This will led to lower turnout overall.

Kinda like I would have still voted for Biden in nov, but there would have been a lower turnout for the Dems. Obviously both of these views could be wrong, but motivation for a candidate is a factor for turnout.

Pessimists only get happy surprises.

I recently told my wife that I've started partially avoiding politics because I couldn't take the hits anymore. She responded (paraphrasing) "you should, it's been mostly good news!"

I responded by referencing the "don't do that, don't give me hope" meme.

If the worst happens, I won't be surprised. If the alternative does, I will be delighted and surprised.

edit: Sorry, I'm exhausted for unrelated reasons and that was probably rambling. You can probably safely ignore every part of this post after the first sentence. Hopefully that one adds some conversational or morale value.

Relax, you're fine, man. I like some insights in people's lives, it's interesting, even though it's only a short window I like to look inside. I figure I'm not the only one.

Hope you have a great weekend, stranger <3

If scotus crowns him king. I hope they're ready for shit to burn. Themselves first.

[-] Asafum@feddit.nl 5 points 1 day ago

I was too young for Bush v Gore, but now...

[-] Empricorn@feddit.nl 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Personally, it's not fatigue, but I'm glad if some conservatives are feeling that way. I can barely stand to see that disgusting hateful man, or hear his dishonest, mocking words. He disrespects everyone who doesn't help him in some way, acts on impulse, and takes the most immoral side of any issue... I don't know how anyone could support him.

[-] Valmond@lemmy.world 54 points 1 day ago

I want this crap grifter to disappear forever ASAP and I'm a European...

My man what a enormous piece of shit fr.

[-] rayyy@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

I have notice that upper class Republicans, informed Republicans and Republicans who worked for him are voting for Kamala Harris. The lower class, low information MAGAs and haters are still all in for the weak, weird, old orange felon.

[-] lurch@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

They still hope he will hurt the people they hate more than he will hurt them

[-] PugJesus@lemmy.world 52 points 1 day ago

I have family who are lifelong Republicans but soured on Trump. Because, for all of their faults and their media bubbles, willing to endure Trump's stupidity in exchange for the idea that he was just a tool for the GOP, they do still believe in democracy, and Jan 6 was too blatant for even their favorite news sources to spin positively.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

I wish I knew Republicans like that. All the ones I know literally would never change their mind about him no matter what. And this sadly includes my own family.

[-] PugJesus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

The ones I know who eventually changed their were never all-in on him, they were the "He's our Cyrus" types who recognized he was a shitty human being and, more important to them, a pathetic excuse of a con man only wearing a Christian's clothing, but thought the GOP could effectively use him for long-standing policy goals. They were willing to buy into "The border in crisis!", "LAGGING DEMOCRAT SOCIALIST ECONOMY", and "Transgender litterboxes in public schools", but "Time to overthrow democracy" was too much for them. For their faults and delusions, they genuinely buy into the US as a bastion of freedom and democracy, and anti-democratic moves evoke genuine revulsion from them.

It's small, and if they weren't family, it wouldn't be enough for me to keep enduring such nonsense - but as they are family, I'm just thankful that they aren't outright fascists, just rubes. Though, as long as the fascists hide the exact level of fascism they're going for, the practical effect is the same. Trump's incompetence is, in a strange way, a saving grace here.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

That all makes sense. I wish my family wasn't so garbagey about trump. I lost a ton of respect for them because they literally can't be bothered to care about anything besides abortion being evil. When confronted with Jan 6, trump is magically the only person on earth for them who isn't guilty by association, because clearly the traitors did this very much against Trump's wishes 🤮

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Now I don't expect you to waste time and energy on topics you don't want to talk about with that family, but I wonder if you've seen the latest batch of unsealed evidence from Jack Smith's filed motion on the 2020 election case... (key takeaways).

Up to this point, I had more or less given Trump the benefit of doubt. I had figured that riling up a base telling them it's not over is the kind of thing that could lead to violence. However, nothing so far linked directly to Trump against the most charitable interpretation of events that Trump had just let it happen with no knowledge of a plan to overthrow government, and for all intents he would have wanted to peacefully transfer power to the rightful winner of the election. The evidence here disproves that, he wanted to stay president by any means possible, was warned by Mike Pence and told repeatedly to step down. He was aware of potential consequences and when the events of Jan 6 transpired he wilfully withheld taking any action, and his "so what?" comment tells me his inaction wasn't due to shock or surprise.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

I wish the facts mattered to my family but they just don't. They're convinced anything they don't already believe about trump is a lie unless it makes him look good.

The reality is they're just too mentally lazy and fragile to rethink anything. You should've heard the conversation I recently had with them about capital punishment. It was deflating to say the least

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

I wish I had those. My family is in Connecticut, of all places, and there are still Trump supporters among them, somehow.

[-] BlitzoTheOisSilent@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Same! I remember back in high school some of my classmates had confederate flags on their trucks and hats and shit.

Like... Bruh, we're in Connecticut, we were on the Union's side, and your "farm" is half an acre outside of Middletown, relax.

[-] NOPper@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Lol we could have gone to the same school, and my family is 100% all in on the guy. So weird.

[-] tilefan@lemm.ee 40 points 1 day ago

make sure to remind him that Republican leadership has done nothing to stop him, and has facilitated his shitty policy changes every step of the way. just in case he thinks Trump is the only problem and plans on going back once he's gone

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

And every Republican who wouldn't kiss the ring is no longer an elected official.

[-] j0j0@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

That wouldn't be a ring on a hand that they're kissing

[-] 2pt_perversion@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

I said that after the 2020 election to my wife...it did not age well.

[-] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

That's nice and all but we still have the young idiots like MGT and Bobert and Gaetz that will carry the Trump torch. Not to mention the young SCOTUS idiots.

[-] treadful@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago

I knew who this was referring to at the first sentence.

I figured it out in the first 2 words!

[-] chknbwl@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Where I live, more and more "Trump Vance 2024 MAGA" signs are planted in front of homes every day. The only people supporting that citrus shit-stain are too far gone to correct their misconceptions.

[-] Asafum@feddit.nl 9 points 1 day ago

"Sorry, best we could do is Trump dynasty. Next up, Don Jr."

Hopefully The Base isn't as riled up for him. I don't think he has the same kind of con man "charisma" like Trump does, he might be more of a Jeb! type. At least I hope lol
